[lldb] Correctly restore the cursor column after resizing the statusline (#146132)
This PR ensures we correctly restore the cursor column after resizing
the statusline. To ensure we have space for the statusline, we have to
emit a newline to move up everything on screen. The newline causes the
cursor to move to the start of the next line, which needs to be undone.

Normally, we would use escape codes to save & restore the cursor
position, but that doesn't work here, as the cursor position may have
(purposely) changed. Instead, we move the cursor up one line using an
escape code, but we weren't restoring the column.

Interestingly, Editline was able to recover from this issue through the
LineInfo struct which contains the buffer and the cursor location, which
allows us to compute the column. This PR addresses the bug by having
Editline "refresh" the cursor position.

[lldb][RISCV] fix LR/SC atomic sequence handling in lldb-server (#146072)
lldb-server had limited support for single-stepping through the lr/sc

The previous version contained an incorrect regex pattern in the test,
causing the riscv-specific test to run on other platforms. This reland
fixes the regex (see lldb/test/API/riscv/step/TestSoftwareStep.py)

[lldb] Add Model Context Protocol (MCP) support to LLDB (#143628)
This PR adds an MCP (Model Context Protocol ) server to LLDB. For
motivation and background, please refer to the corresponding RFC:
https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-adding-mcp-support-to-lldb/86798

I implemented this as a new kind of plugin. The idea is that we could
support multiple protocol servers (e.g. if we want to support DAP from
within LLDB). This also introduces a corresponding top-level command
(`protocol-server`) with two subcommands to `start` and `stop` the
server.

```
(lldb) protocol-server start MCP tcp://localhost:1234
MCP server started with connection listeners: connection://[::1]:1234, connection://[127.0.0.1]:1234
```

The MCP sever supports one tool (`lldb_command`) which executes a
command, but can easily be extended with more commands.

4e090b6e84 [lldb] Re-insert code to search for a binary by filepath if provided
July 14 2024 I landed a change to update progress reporting when
loading kernel/firmware binaries
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/98845
In DynamicLoader::LoadBinaryWithUUIDAndAddress I removed code that
was setting the ModuleSpec to the provided name, if the name provided
is that of a file on disk. With this code missing, if a filepath
name is passed in, this code will fail to find that binary on the local
disk. There's nothing in the PR / intention that would lead to this
change, it was unintentional.

[lldb] Add support to list/enable/disable remaining plugin types. (#143970)
In #134418 we added support to list/enable/disable `SystemRuntime` and
`InstrumentationRuntime` plugins. We limited it to those two plugin
types to flesh out the idea with a smaller change.

This PR adds support for the remaining plugin types. We now support all
the plugins that can be registered directly with the plugin manager.
Plugins that are added by loading shared objects are still not
supported.

[lldb] Use 1 based row and column for statusline (#143385)
I can't find a proper source for this but many materials say that ANSI
rows and columns start at 1 not 0.

https://www2.math.upenn.edu/~kazdan/210/computer/ansi.html is as good as
I can get:
```
<row> is a number from 1 through 25 that specifies the row to which the cursor is to be moved.
<col> is a number from 1 through 80 that specifies the column to which the cursor is to be moved.
```

0 does work in Windows terminal and Linux terminals, but we might as
well be correct and it's one less thing to reason about when auditing
this code.

From what I read, some terminals correct 0 back to 1 and some treat 0 as
a missing argument, which also defaults to 1.

Add commands to list/enable/disable plugins (#134418)
This commit adds three new commands for managing plugins. The `list`
command will show which plugins are currently registered and their
enabled state. The `enable` and `disable` commands can be used to enable
or disable plugins.

A disabled plugin will not show up to the PluginManager when it iterates
over available plugins of a particular type.

The purpose of these commands is to provide more visibility into
registered plugins and allow users to disable plugins for experimental
perf reasons.

There are a few limitations to the current implementation

1. Only SystemRuntime and InstrumentationRuntime plugins are currently
supported. We can easily extend the existing implementation to support
more types. The scope was limited to these plugins to keep the PR size
manageable.

2. Only "statically" know plugin types are supported (i.e. those managed
by the PluginManager and not from `plugin load`). It is possibly we
could support dynamic plugins as well, but I have not looked into it
yet.

[lldb][Format] Add [inlined] marker to names of inlined frames (#142952)
This was removed in https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/135343 in
favour of making it a format variable, which we do here. This follows
the precedent of the `[opt]` and `[artificial]` markers.

Before:
```
 thread #1, queue = 'com.apple.main-thread', stop reason = breakpoint 1.2
 * frame #0: 0x000000010000037c a.out`inlined1() at inline.cpp:4:3
   frame #1: 0x000000010000037c a.out`regular() at inline.cpp:6:17
   frame #2: 0x00000001000003b8 a.out`inlined2() at inline.cpp:7:43
   frame #3: 0x00000001000003b4 a.out`main at inline.cpp:10:3
   frame #4: 0x0000000186345be4 dyld`start + 7040
```

After (note the `[inlined]` markers):
```
thread #1, queue = 'com.apple.main-thread', stop reason = breakpoint 1.2
* frame #0: 0x000000010000037c a.out`inlined1() at inline.cpp:4:3 [inlined]
[lldb/cmake] Implicitly pass arguments to llvm_add_library (#142583)
If we're not touching them, we don't need to do anything special to pass
them along -- with one important caveat: due to how cmake arguments
work, the implicitly passed arguments need to be specified before
arguments that we handle.
This isn't particularly nice, but the alternative is enumerating all
arguments that can be used by llvm_add_library and the macros it calls
(it also relies on implicit passing of some arguments to
llvm_process_sources).
[lldb-dap] Reuse source object logics (#141426)
Refactor code revolving source objects such that most logics will be
The main change is to expose a single `CreateSource(addr, target)` that
`ShouldDisplayAssemblySource()` only from this function instead of
multiple places across the code.
Other functions can use `source.IsAssemblySource()` in order to check
which type the source is.
[Demangling] Refactor Demangler range tracking (#140762)
This PR is a subset of the commits made in
https://github.com/swiftlang/llvm-project/pull/10710.
The most notable change is the addition of `PrefixRange` and
`SuffixRange` which are a catch-all to track anything after or before a
function's demangled name. In the case of Swift, this allows to add
support for name highlighting without having to track the range of the
scope and specifiers of a function (this will come in another PR).
AddressFunctionScope was always returning the first address range of the
[lldb] Support alternatives for scope format entries (#137751)
This PR implements support for specifying multiple alternatives for
scope format entries. Scopes are used to enclose things that should only
be printed when everything in the scope resolves.
For example, the following scope only resolves if both
`${line.file.basename}` and `${line.number}` resolve. `
```
{ at ${line.file.basename}:${line.number}}
```
However, the current implementation doesn't let you specify what to
print when they don't resolve. This PR adds support for specifying
multiple alternative scopes, which are evaluated left-to-right.
For example:
```
{ at ${line.file.basename}:${line.number}| in ${function.name}| <unknown location>}
```
This will resolve to:
- ` at ${line.file.basename}:${line.number}` if the corresponding
variables resolve.
- Otherwise, this resolves to ` in ${function.name}` if
`${function.name}` resolves.
- Otherwise, this resolves to ` <unknown location>` which always
resolves.
This PR makes the `|` character a special character within a scope, but
allows it to be escaped.
I ended up with this approach because it fit quite nicely in the
existing architecture of the format entries and by limiting the
functionality to scopes, it sidesteps some complexity, like dealing with
recursion.
Don't hold the Target's ModuleListLock over running LoadScriptingResourceInTarget (#138216)
That calls an unknown amount of Python code, and can do quite a bit of
work - especially if people do things like launch scripted processes in
this script affordance. Doing that while holding a major lock like the
ModuleList lock is asking for trouble.
I tried to make a test that would actually stall without this, but I
couldn't come up with anything that reliably failed. You always have to
get pretty unlucky.
[lldb][Format] Make function name frame-format variables work without debug-info (#137408)
This patch makes the frame-format variables introduced in
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/131836 also work when no
debug-info is available. Previously, we assumed `sc.function` was
available, but without debug-info we might only have `sc.symbol`. We
don't really need the `sc.function` apart from when formatting
arguments.
For the function arguments case I added a fallback that will just print
the arguments we get from the demangler (which is what LLDB does for
stacktraces with no debug-info anyway). Ideally we'd have a separate
`FormatEntity::Entry::Type::FunctionArguments` that will just print the
arguments from the demangler and have something like the following in
the `plugin.cplusplus.display.function-name-format`:
```
{ ${function.formatted-arguments} || ${function.arguments} }
```
I.e., when we can't format the arguments, print the ones from the
demangler. But we currently don't have the `||` operator in the
frame-format language yet.
d555b9f9a0 [lldb][CPlusPlus] Add plugin.cplusplus.display.function-name-format setting (#131836)
Adds the new `plugin.cplusplus.display.function-name-format` setting and makes the `${function.name-with-args}` query it for formatting the function name.
One caveat is that the setting can't itself be set to `${function.name-with-args}` because that would cause infinite recursion and blow the stack. I added an XFAILed test-case for it and will address it in a follow-up patch.
8b91b44a3b [lldb][Format] Introduce new frame-format variables for function parts (#131836)
Adds new frame-format variables and implements them in the CPlusPlusLanguage plugin.
We use the `DemangledNameInfo` type to retrieve the necessary part of the demangled name.
a2672250be [lldb][Mangled] Retrieve and cache demangled name info (#131836)
Uses the `TrackingOutputBuffer` to populate the new member `Mangled::m_demangled_info`.
`m_demangled_info` is lazily popluated by `GetDemangledInfo`. To ensure `m_demangled` and `m_demangled_info` are in-sync we clear `m_demangled_info` anytime `m_demangled` is set/cleared.
f220ea2947 [lldb][Mangled] Add API to force re-demangling a Mangled object (#131836)
Add version of GetDemangledName that will force re-demangling. This is required because LLDB will SetDemangledName without going through the demangler. So we need a way to force demangling to set the m_demangled_info member when we need it.
9c830cef3d [lldb] Implement TrackingOutputBuffer to track demangled name information (#131836)
This patch implements a new `TrackingOutputBuffer` which tracks where the scope/basename/arguments begin and end in the demangled string.
The idea that a function name can be decomposed into <scope, base, arguments>. The assumption is that given the ranges of those three elements and the demangled name, LLDB will be able to to reconstruct the full demangled name. The tracking of those ranges is pretty simple. We don’t ever deal with nesting, so whenever we recurse into a template argument list or another function type, we just stop tracking any positions. Once we recursed out of those, and are back to printing the top-level function name, we continue tracking the positions.
We introduce a new structure `FunctionNameInfo` that holds all this information and is stored in the new `TrackingOutputBuffer` class.
Tests are in `ItaniumDemangleTest.cpp`.
[lldb] Remerge #136236 (Avoid force loading symbols in statistics collection (#136795)
Fix a [test
failure](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/136236#issuecomment-2819772879)
in #136236, apply a minor renaming of statistics, and remerge. See
details below.
# Changes in #136236
Currently, `DebuggerStats::ReportStatistics()` calls
`Module::GetSymtab(/*can_create=*/false)`, but then the latter calls
`SymbolFile::GetSymtab()`. This will load symbols if haven't yet. See
stacktrace below.
The problem is that `DebuggerStats::ReportStatistics` should be
read-only. This is especially important because it reports stats for
symtab parsing/indexing time, which could be affected by the reporting
itself if it's not read-only.
This patch fixes this problem by adding an optional parameter
`SymbolFile::GetSymtab(bool can_create = true)` and receiving the
`false` value passed down from `Module::GetSymtab(/*can_create=*/false)`
when the call is initiated from `DebuggerStats::ReportStatistics()`.
---
Notes about the following stacktrace:
1. This can be reproduced. Create a helloworld program on **macOS** with
dSYM, add `settings set target.preload-symbols false` to `~/.lldbinit`,
do `lldb a.out`, then `statistics dump`.
2. `ObjectFile::GetSymtab` has `llvm::call_once`. So the fact that it
called into `ObjectFileMachO::ParseSymtab` means that the symbol table
is actually being parsed.
Fix a [test
failure](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/136236#issuecomment-2819772879)
in `TestStats.py`. The original version of the added test checks that
all modules have symbol count zero when `target.preload-symbols ==
false`. The test failed on macOS. Due to various reasons, on macOS,
symbols can be loaded for dylibs even with that setting, but not for the
main module. For now, the fix of the test is to limit the assertion to
only the main module. The test now passes on macOS. In the future, when
we have a way to control a specific list of plug-ins to be loaded, there
may be a configuration that this test can use to assert that all modules
have symbol count zero.
Apply a minor renaming of statistics, per the
[suggestion](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/136226#issuecomment-2825080275)
in #136226 after merge.
[lldb] Make sure changing the separator takes immediate effect (#136779)
The setter is only used when changing the setting programmatically. When
using the settings command, we need to monitor SetPropertyValue.
[lldb] Make the statusline separator configurable (#136611)
And use this functionality to replace the ASCII "|" with the same
full-geight line-drawing character used in diagnostics rendering on a
color terminal.
