[CodeGen] Really renumber slot indexes before register allocation (#67038)
PR #66334 tried to renumber slot indexes before register allocation, but
the numbering was still affected by list entries for instructions which
had been erased. Fix this to make the register allocator's live range
length heuristics even less dependent on the history of how instructions
have been added to and removed from SlotIndexes's maps.

e0919b189b [CodeGen] Renumber slot indexes before register allocation (#66334)
RegAllocGreedy uses SlotIndexes::getApproxInstrDistance to approximate
the length of a live range for its heuristics. Renumbering all slot
indexes with the default instruction distance ensures that this estimate
will be as accurate as possible, and will not depend on the history of
how instructions have been added to and removed from SlotIndexes's maps.

This also means that enabling -early-live-intervals, which runs the
SlotIndexes analysis earlier, will not cause large amounts of churn due
to different register allocator decisions.

0f8e0f4228 [X86] lowerBuildVectorAsBroadcast - broadcast Constant of original (BuildVector) element size
Noticed in D150143/D150526 - we currently create scalar Constant values using the broadcast instruction width, which might be wider than the original build vector width, making it tricky to recognise the original constant bits data.

If we have widened the broadcast value, its much more useful for asm comments if we create a ConstantVector with the original element data, add that to the constant-pool and load that with the same (wider) broadcast instruction.

Now, when llc encounters the case that contains a lot of

189900eb14 X86: Stop assigning register costs for longer encodings.
This stops reporting CostPerUse 1 for `R8`-`R15` and `XMM8`-`XMM31`.
This was previously done because instruction encoding require a REX
prefix when using them resulting in longer instruction encodings. I
found that this regresses the quality of the register allocation as the
costs impose an ordering on eviction candidates. I also feel that there
is a bit of an impedance mismatch as the actual costs occure when
encoding instructions using those registers, but the order of VReg
assignments is not primarily ordered by number of Defs+Uses.

I did extensive measurements with the llvm-test-suite wiht SPEC2006 +
SPEC2017 included, internal services showed similar patterns. Generally
there are a log of improvements but also a lot of regression. But on
average the allocation quality seems to improve at a small code size
regression.

655d0d86f9 [DAGCombine] Move AVG combine to SimplifyDemandBits
This moves the matching of AVGFloor and AVGCeil into a place where
demand bit are available, so that it can detect more cases for more
folds. It changes the transform to start from a shift, not from a
truncate. We match the pattern shr(add(ext(A), ext(B)), 1), transforming
to ext(hadd(A, B)).

For signed values, because only the bottom bits are demanded llvm will
transform the above to use a lshr too, as opposed to ashr. In order to
correctly detect the hadd we need to know the demanded bits to turn it
back. Depending on whether the shift is signed (ashr) or logical (lshr),
and the extensions are signed or unsigned we can create different nodes.
If the shift is signed:
Needs >= 2 sign bits. https://alive2.llvm.org/ce/z/h4gQAW generating signed rhadd.
Needs >= 2 zero bits. https://alive2.llvm.org/ce/z/B64DUA generating unsigned rhadd.
If the shift is unsigned:
Needs >= 1 zero bits. https://alive2.llvm.org/ce/z/ByD8sj generating unsigned rhadd.
Needs 1 demanded bit zero and >= 2 sign bits https://alive2.llvm.org/ce/z/hvPGxX and

[X86] detectAVGPattern(): support basic case of PAVG chaining (PR52131)
As noted in https://github.com/halide/Halide/pull/6302,
we hilariously fail to match PAVG if we even as much
as look at it the wrong way.

In this particular case, the problem stems from the fact that
`PAVG` root (def) is a `trunc`, and leafs (uses) are `zext`'s,
and InstCombine really loves to get rid of both of these,
for example replace them with a bit mask. So we may not have
said `zext`.

Instead of checking for that + type match,
i think we should rely on the actual active type,
as per the knownbits.

[NFC][X86][Codegen] Megacommit: mass-regenerate all check lines that were already autogenerated
The motivation is that the update script has at least two deviations
(`<...>@GOT`/`<...>@PLT`/ and not hiding pointer arithmetics) from
what pretty much all the checklines were generated with,
and most of the tests are still not updated, so each time one of the
non-up-to-date tests is updated to see the effect of the code change,
there is a lot of noise. Instead of having to deal with that each
time, let's just deal with everything at once.

This has been done via:

21d02dc595 [X86][SSE] SimplifyDemandedVectorEltsForTargetNode - add general shuffle combining support
This patch uses partial DemandedElts masks to further simplify target shuffle chains and finally starts making target shuffle combining part of SimplifyDemandedBits/SimplifyDemandedVectorElts.

We already manage this for Depth == 0 cases, where combineX86ShuffleChain would early-out if the shuffle combined to the same op, but the patch generalizes this by manipulating the depth handling of combineX86ShufflesRecursively - calling with a new Depth = 0 and reducing the maximum shuffle combine depth accordingly.

If the mask input to getV4X86ShuffleImm8 only refers to a single source element (+ undefs) then canonicalize to a full broadcast.

getV4X86ShuffleImm8 defaults to inline values for undefs, which can be useful for shuffle widening/narrowing but does leave SimplifyDemanded* calls thinking the shuffle depends on unnecessary elements.

I'm still investigating what we should do more generally to avoid these undemanded elements, but broadcast cases was a simpler win.

17eafe0841 [X86][SSE] lowerV2I64Shuffle - use undef elements in PSHUFD mask widening

By ensuring we widen the undef mask element we allow getV4X86ShuffleImm8 to use inline elements as the default, which are more likely to fold.

Truncations lowered as shuffles of multiple (concatenated) vectors often leave us with lane-crossing shuffles that feed a PACKSS/PACKUS, if both shuffles are fed from the same 2 vector sources, then we can PACK the sources directly and shuffle the result instead.

This is currently limited to whole i128 lanes in a 256-bit vector, but we can extend this if the need arises (but I'm not seeing many examples in real world code).

446a3be8f1 [X86] Add PACK instructions to hasUndefRegUpdate so the BreakFalseDeps pass will reassign an undef second source to match the first source
We generate PACK instructions with an undef second source when we are truncating from a 128-bit vector to something narrower and we don't care about the upper bits of the vector register. The register allocation process will always assign untied undef uses to xmm0. This creates a false dependency on xmm0.

By adding these instructions to hasUndefRegUpdate, we can get the BreakFalseDeps pass to reassign the source to match the other input. Normally this interface is used for instructions that might need an xor inserted to break the dependency. But the pass also has a heuristic that tries to use the same register as other sources. That should always be possible for these instructions so we'll never trigger the xor dependency break.

Cost model is still a bit of a mess. In some place I tried to

The test diffs here all seem ok to me on screen/paper, but it's hard to know
if that will lead to universally better perf for all targets. For example,
if a target implements broadcast from mem as multiple uops, we would have to
weigh the potential reduction of instructions and register pressure vs.

8b5f2ab2a4 Recommit r367901 "[X86] Enable -x86-experimental-vector-widening-legalization by default."
The assert that caused this to be reverted should be fixed now.

Original commit message:

This patch changes our defualt legalization behavior for 16, 32, and
64 bit vectors with i8/i16/i32/i64 scalar types from promotion to
widening. For example, v8i8 will now be widened to v16i8 instead of
promoted to v8i16. This keeps the elements widths the same and pads
with undef elements. We believe this is a better legalization strategy.
But it carries some issues due to the fragmented vector ISA. For
example, i8 shifts and multiplies get widened and then later have
to be promoted/split into vXi16 vectors.

This has the potential to cause regressions so we wanted to get
it in early in the 10.0 cycle so we have plenty of time to
address them.

Next steps will be to merge tests that explicitly test the command
line option. And then we can remove the option and its associated
code.

with undef elements.

And then we can remove the option and its associated
code.

510e6fadaa [X86] When using AND+PACKUS in lowerV16I8Shuffle, generate the build vector directly in v16i8 with the correct 0x00 or 0xFF elements rather than using another VT and bitcasting it.
The build_vector will become a constant pool load. By using the
desired type initially, it ensures we don't generate a bitcast
of the constant pool load which will need to be folded with
the load.

While experimenting with another patch, I noticed that when the
load type and the constant pool type don't match, then
SimplifyDemandedBits can't handle it. While we should probably
fix that, this was a simple way to fix the issue I saw.

c0711af7f9 [X86][AVX] combineExtractSubvector - 'little to big' extract_subvector(bitcast()) support
Ideally this needs to be a generic combine in DAGCombiner::visitEXTRACT_SUBVECTOR but there's some nasty regressions in aarch64 due to neon shuffles not handling bitcasts at all.....

606eb2367f [x86] split 256-bit store of concatenated vectors
This shows up as a side issue to the main problem for the AVX target example from PR37428:
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37428 - https://godbolt.org/z/7tpRa3

But as we can see in the pile of existing test diffs, it's actually a widespread problem
that affects any AVX or later target. Apart from a couple of oddballs, I think these are
all improvements for the reasons stated in the code comment: we do not want to enable YMM
unnecessarily (avoid vzeroupper and frequency throttling) and some cores split 256-bit
stores anyway.

We could say that MergeConsecutiveStores() is going overboard on some of these examples,
but that won't solve the problem completely. But that is a reason I'm proposing this as
a lowering rather than a combine: we will infinite loop fighting the merge code if we try
this earlier.
