AMDGPU: Move softPromoteHalfType override to R600 only (#177419)
As expected the code is much worse, but more correct.
We could do a better job with source modifier management around
fp16_to_fp/fp_to_fp16.

AMDGPU: Change ABI of 16-bit element vectors on gfx6/7 (#175781)
Fix ABI on old subtargets so match new subtargets, packing
16-bit element subvectors into 32-bit registers. Previously
this would be scalarized and promoted to i32/float.

Note this only changes the vector cases. Scalar i16/half are
still promoted to i32/float for now. I've unsuccessfully tried
to make that switch in the past, so leave that for later.

This will help with removal of softPromoteHalfType.

[RFC][NFC][AMDGPU] Remove -verify-machineinstrs from llvm/test/CodeGen/AMDGPU/*.ll (#150024)
Recent upstream trends have moved away from explicitly using `-verify-machineinstrs`, as it's already covered by the expensive checks. This PR removes almost all `-verify-machineinstrs` from tests in `llvm/test/CodeGen/AMDGPU/*.ll`, leaving only those tests where its removal currently causes failures.

[AMDGPU][SIInsertWaitCnts] skip meta instructions early (#145720)
When iterating over a block, meta instructions have no effect on wait counts,
but their presence drops the reference to earlier waitcnt instructions before
they are processed. This results in spurious wait counts, which do not affect
correctness, but are also not required in the resulting program. Skipping meta
instructions as soon as they are seen cleans this up.

[AMDGPU][True16][CodeGen] update GFX11Plus codegen test with true16 flag (#135078)
This is a NFC patch.

This patch run a bulk update on CodeGen tests that are impacted by the
true16 features. This patch applies:
1. duplicate GFX11plus runlines and apply them with
"+mattr=+real-true16" and "+mattr=-real-true16"
2. update the test with the update script

For some GISEL runlines, the current CodeGen do not fully support the
true16 version. Still update the runlines, but comment out the failing
one, and added a "FIXME-TRUE16" comment to that test for easier
tracking. These test will be fixed in the following patches.

This is in a transition state that we support both
"+real-true16/-real-true16" in our code base. We plan to move to
"+real-true16" as default, and finally remove "-real-true16" mode and
test lines.

[AMDGPU] Filter candidates of LiveRegOptimizer for profitable cases (#124624)
It is known that for vector whose element fits in i16 will be split and
scalarized in SelectionDag's type legalizer
(see SIISelLowering::getPreferredVectorAction).

LRO attempts to undo the scalarizing of vectors across basic block
boundary and shoehorn Values in VGPRs. LRO is beneficial for operations
that natively work on illegal vector types to prevent flip-flopping
between unpacked and packed. If we know that operations on vector will
be split and scalarized, then we don't want to shoehorn them back to
packed VGPR.

Operations that we know to work natively on illegal vector types usually
come in the form of intrinsics (MFMA, DOT8), buffer store, shuffle, phi
nodes to name a few.

[CodeGen] Really renumber slot indexes before register allocation (#67038)
PR #66334 tried to renumber slot indexes before register allocation, but
the numbering was still affected by list entries for instructions which
had been erased. Fix this to make the register allocator's live range
length heuristics even less dependent on the history of how instructions
have been added to and removed from SlotIndexes's maps.

e0919b189b [CodeGen] Renumber slot indexes before register allocation (#66334)
RegAllocGreedy uses SlotIndexes::getApproxInstrDistance to approximate
the length of a live range for its heuristics. Renumbering all slot
indexes with the default instruction distance ensures that this estimate
will be as accurate as possible, and will not depend on the history of
how instructions have been added to and removed from SlotIndexes's maps.

This also means that enabling -early-live-intervals, which runs the
SlotIndexes analysis earlier, will not cause large amounts of churn due
to different register allocator decisions.

806761a762 [test] Change llc -march= to -mtriple=
The issue is uncovered by #47698: for IR files without a target triple,
-mtriple= specifies the full target triple while -march= merely sets the
architecture part of the default target triple, leaving a target triple which
may not make sense, e.g. riscv64-apple-darwin.

Therefore, -march= is error-prone and not recommended for tests without a target
triple. The issue has been benign as we recognize $unknown-apple-darwin as ELF instead
of rejecting it outrightly.

f2c164c815 [AMDGPU] Do not wait for vscnt on function entry and return
SIInsertWaitcnts inserts waitcnt instructions to resolve data
dependencies. The GFX10+ vscnt (VMEM store count) counter is never used
in this way. It is only used to resolve memory dependencies, and that is
handled by SIMemoryLegalizer. Hence there is no need to conservatively
wait for vscnt to be 0 on function entry and before returns.

b3b3cb2d2f [AMDGPU] Less aggressively break large PHIs
In some cases, breaking large PHIs can very negatively affect
performance (3x more instructions observed in a particular test case).

This patch adds some basic profitability heuristics to help with some of these issues without affecting the "good" cases.

d892521076 [AMDGPU] Break-up large PHIs for DAGISel
DAGISel uses CopyToReg/CopyFromReg to lower PHI nodes. With large PHIs, this can result in poor codegen.
This is because it introduces a need to have a build_vector before copying the PHI value, and that build_vector may have many undef elements. This can cause very high register pressure and abnormal stack usage in some cases.

This scalarization/phi "break-up" can be easily tuned/disabled through CL options in case it's not beneficial for some users.
It's also only enabled for DAGIsel and GlobalISel handles PHIs much better (as it works on the whole function).

This can both scalarize (break a vector into its elements) and simplify (break a vector into smaller, more manageable subvectors) PHIs.

f4e6149d82 [AMDGPU] Use V_PERM to match buildvectors when inputs are not canonicalized (i.e. can't use V_PACK)

7a84624079 AMDGPU: Make various vector undefs legal
Surprisingly these were getting legalized to something
zero initialized.

This fixes an infinite loop when combining some vector types.
Also fixes zero initializing some undef values.

SimplifyDemandedVectorElts / SimplifyDemandedBits are not checking
for the legality of the output undefs they are replacing unused
operations with. This resulted in turning vectors into undefs
that were later re-legalized back into zero vectors.

69d5a038b9 [DAG] Enable ISD::SRL SimplifyMultipleUseDemandedBits handling inside SimplifyDemandedBits
This patch allows SimplifyDemandedBits to call SimplifyMultipleUseDemandedBits in cases where the ISD::SRL source operand has other uses, enabling us to peek through the shifted value if we don't demand all the bits/elts.

This is another step towards removing SelectionDAG::GetDemandedBits and just using TargetLowering::SimplifyMultipleUseDemandedBits.

There a few cases where we end up with extra register moves which I think we can accept in exchange for the increased ILP.

3eb2281bc0 [AMDGPU] Aggressively fold immediates in SIFoldOperands
Previously SIFoldOperands::foldInstOperand would only fold a
non-inlinable immediate into a single user, so as not to increase code
size by adding the same 32-bit literal operand to many instructions.

This patch removes that restriction, so that a non-inlinable immediate
will be folded into any number of users. The rationale is:
- It reduces the number of registers used for holding constant values,
which might increase occupancy. (On the other hand, many of these
registers are SGPRs which no longer affect occupancy on GFX10+.)
- It reduces ALU stalls between the instruction that loads a constant
into a register, and the instruction that uses it.
- The above benefits are expected to outweigh any increase in code size.
