[LTO] Print conflicting operands between Src and Dest modules (#115104)
The current error message doesn't give sufficient details to help with
debugging. This patch will log the operand values that are conflicting.

After this patch the output is of the form:
```
'Large Data Threshold': IDs have conflicting values: 'i32 101' from /usr/local/home/llvm-project/build/test/LTO/X86/Output/largedatathreshold-3.ll.tmp1.o, and 'i32 100' from ld-temp.o
[IR] Disallow recursive types (#114799)
StructType::setBody is the only mechanism that can potentially create
recursion in the type system. Add a runtime check that it is not
actually used to create recursion.
If the check fails, report an error from LLParser, BitcodeReader and
IRLinker. In all other cases assert that the check succeeds.
In future StructType::setBody will be removed in favor of specifying the
body when the type is created, so any performance hit from this runtime
check will be temporary.
[ThinLTO] Do not duplicate import a function that is actually defined in the current module (#110064)
Doing so could cause a bug where the linker tries to remap a function
"reimported" from the current module when materializing it, causing a
lookup assert in the type mappings.
[Linker] Propagate nobuiltin attributes when linking known libcalls (#89431)
Summary:
As discussed in
https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-libc-ffreestanding-fno-builtin.
LLVM ascribes special semantics to several functions that are known to
be `libcalls`. These are functions that middle-end optimizations may
transforms calls into or perform optimizations based off of known
semantics. However, these assumptions require an opaque function call to
be known valid. In situations like LTO or IR linking it is possible to
bring a libcall definition into the current module. Once this happens,
we can no longer make any guarantees about the semantics of these
functions.
We currently attempt to solve this by preventing all inlining if the
called function has `no-builtin` https://reviews.llvm.org/D74162.
However, this is overly pessimistic as it prevents all inlining even for
non-libcall functions.
This patch modifies the IRMover class to track known libcalls enabled
for the given target. If we encounter a known libcall during IR linking,
we then need to append the `nobuiltin` attribute to the destination
module. Afterwards, all new definitions we link in will be applied as
well.
[RemoveDIs][NFC] Use ScopedDbgInfoFormatSetter in more places (#87380)
The class `ScopedDbgInfoFormatSetter` was added as a convenient way to
temporarily change the debug info format of a function or module, as
part of IR printing; since this process is repeated in a number of other
places, this patch uses the format-setter class in those places as well.
435d4c12de Reapply [RemoveDIs] Read/write DbgRecords directly from/to bitcode (#83251)
Reaplying after revert in #85382 (861ebe6446296c96578807363aa292c69d827773).
Fixed intermittent test failure by avoiding piping output in some RUN lines.
If --write-experimental-debuginfo-iterators-to-bitcode is true (default false)
and --expermental-debuginfo-iterators is also true then the new debug info
format (non-instruction records) is written to bitcode directly.
Added the following records:
    FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_LABEL
    FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE
    FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_DECLARE
    FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_ASSIGN
    FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE_SIMPLE
The last one has an abbrev in FUNCTION_BLOCK BLOCK_INFO. Incidentally, this uses
the last value available without widening the code-length for FUNCTION_BLOCK
from 4 to 5 bits.
Records are formatted as follows:
    All DbgRecord start with:
      1. DILocation
      FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_LABEL
        2. DILabel
      DPValues then share common fields:
        2. DILocalVariable
        3. DIExpression
        FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE
          4. Location Metadata
        FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_DECLARE
          4. Location Metadata
        FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE_SIMPLE
	  4. Location Value (single)
        FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_ASSIGN
	  4. Location Metadata
	  5. DIAssignID
	  6. DIExpression (address)
	  7. Location Metadata (address)
Encoding the DILocation metadata reference directly appeared to yield smaller
bitcode files than encoding the operands seperately (as is done with instruction
DILocations).
FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE_SIMPLE is by far the most common DbgRecord record
in optimized code (order of 5x-10x over other kinds). Unoptimized code should
only contain FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_DECLARE.
[RemoveDIs] Don't convert debug-info in bitcode-loading just now (#80865)
We've been building and testing this no-debug-intrinsic work inside of
the pass manager for a while, so that optimisation passes get exercised
and tested when we turn it on. However, by converting to the
non-intrinsic form in the bitcode loader, we accidentally caused all
parts of LLVM to potentially see non-intrinsic debug-info.
Seeing how we're trying to turn things on incrementally, it was a
mistake to go this far this fast: we can instead just focus on enabling
during optimisations for the moment, then all the other parts of LLVM
later.
[DebugInfo][RemoveDIs] Convert debug-info modes when loading bitcode (#78967)
As part of eliminating debug-intrinsics in LLVM, we'll shortly be
pushing the conversion from "old" dbg.value mode to "new" DPValue mode
out from when the pass manager runs, to when modules are loaded. This
patch adds that conversion process and some (temporary) options to
llvm-lto{,2} to help test it.
Specifically: now whenever we load a bitcode module, consider a flag of
whether to "upgrade" it into the new debug-info mode, and if we're
lazily materializing functions then do that lazily too. Doing this
exposes an error in the IRLinker/materializer handling of DPValues,
where we need to transfer the debug-info format flag correctly, and in
ValueMapper we need to remap the Values that DPValues point at.
I've added some test coverage in the modified tests; these will be
exercised by our llvm-new-debug-iterators buildbot.
This upgrading of debug-info won't be happening for the llvm18 release,
instead we'll turn it on after the branch date, thenbe push the boundary
of where "new" debug-info starts and ends down into the existing
debug-info upgrade path over the course of the next release.
f1b0a54451 Reapply 7d77bbef4ad92, adding new debug-info classes
This reverts commit 957efa4ce4f0391147cec62746e997226ee2b836.
Original commit message below -- in this follow up, I've shifted
un-necessary inclusions of DebugProgramInstruction.h into being forward
declarations (fixes clang-compile time I hope), and a memory leak in the
DebugInfoTest.cpp IR unittests.
I also tracked a compile-time regression in D154080, more explanation
there, but the result of which is hiding some of the changes behind the
EXPERIMENTAL_DEBUGINFO_ITERATORS compile-time flag. This is tested by the
"new-debug-iterators" buildbot.
[DebugInfo][RemoveDIs] Add prototype storage classes for "new" debug-info
This patch adds a variety of classes needed to record variable location
debug-info without using the existing intrinsic approach, see the rationale
at [0].
The two added files and corresponding unit tests are the majority of the
plumbing required for this, but at this point isn't accessible from the
rest of LLVM as we need to stage it into the repo gently. An overview is
that classes are added for recording variable information attached to Real
(TM) instructions, in the form of DPValues and DPMarker objects. The
metadata-uses of DPValues is plumbed into the metadata hierachy, and a
field added to class Instruction, which are all stimulated in the unit
tests. The next few patches in this series add utilities to convert to/from
this new debug-info format and add instruction/block utilities to have
debug-info automatically updated in the background when various operations
occur.
This patch was reviewed in Phab in D153990 and D154080, I've squashed them
together into this commit as there are dependencies between the two
patches, and there's little profit in landing them separately.
RFC https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-dwarfdebug-fix-and-improve-handling-imported-entities-types-and-static-local-in-subprogram-and-lexical-block-scopes/68544
Fixed PR51501 (tests from D112337).
1. Reuse of DISubprogram's 'retainedNodes' to track other function-local
   entities together with local variables and labels (this patch cares about
   function-local import while D144006 and D144008 use the same approach for
   local types and static variables). So, effectively this patch moves ownership
   of tracking local import from DICompileUnit's 'imports' field to DISubprogram's
   'retainedNodes' and adjusts DWARF emitter for the new layout. The old layout
   is considered unsupported (DwarfDebug would assert on such debug metadata).
   DICompileUnit's 'imports' field is supposed to track global imported
   declarations as it does before.
   This addresses various FIXMEs and simplifies the next part of the patch.
2. Postpone emission of function-local imported entities from
   `DwarfDebug::endFunctionImpl()` to `DwarfDebug::endModule()`.
   While in `DwarfDebug::endFunctionImpl()` we do not have all the
   information about a parent subprogram or a referring subprogram
   (whether a subprogram inlined or not), so we can't guarantee we emit
   an imported entity correctly and place it in a proper subprogram tree.
   So now, we just gather needed details about the import itself and its
   parent entity (either a Subprogram or a LexicalBlock) during
   processing in `DwarfDebug::endFunctionImpl()`, but all the real work is
   done in `DwarfDebug::endModule()` when we have all the required
   information to make proper emission.
d04452d548 [DebugMetadata][DwarfDebug] Fix DWARF emisson of function-local imported entities (3/7)
RFC https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-dwarfdebug-fix-and-improve-handling-imported-entities-types-and-static-local-in-subprogram-and-lexical-block-scopes/68544
Fixed PR51501 (tests from D112337).
1. Reuse of DISubprogram's 'retainedNodes' to track other function-local
   entities together with local variables and labels (this patch cares about
   function-local import while D144006 and D144008 use the same approach for
   local types and static variables). So, effectively this patch moves ownership
   of tracking local import from DICompileUnit's 'imports' field to DISubprogram's
   'retainedNodes' and adjusts DWARF emitter for the new layout. The old layout
   is considered unsupported (DwarfDebug would assert on such debug metadata).
   DICompileUnit's 'imports' field is supposed to track global imported
   declarations as it does before.
   This addresses various FIXMEs and simplifies the next part of the patch.
2. Postpone emission of function-local imported entities from
   `DwarfDebug::endFunctionImpl()` to `DwarfDebug::endModule()`.
   While in `DwarfDebug::endFunctionImpl()` we do not have all the
   information about a parent subprogram or a referring subprogram
   (whether a subprogram inlined or not), so we can't guarantee we emit
   an imported entity correctly and place it in a proper subprogram tree.
   So now, we just gather needed details about the import itself and its
   parent entity (either a Subprogram or a LexicalBlock) during
   processing in `DwarfDebug::endFunctionImpl()`, but all the real work is
   done in `DwarfDebug::endModule()` when we have all the required
   information to make proper emission.
451799bb82 [IRMover] Remove UB implying parameter attributes when necessary
When importing functions from some module X into some module Y, they may reference other functions already present in Y. The signature (especially attributes) of those other functions may have diverged between X and Y (e.g. due to the Dead Argument Elimination optimization). If necessary, modify the attributes to avoid UB.
See the added test and implementation comments for more details.
Move from llvm::makeArrayRef to ArrayRef deduction guides - llvm/ part
Use deduction guides instead of helper functions.
The only non-automatic changes have been:
1. ArrayRef(some_uint8_pointer, 0) needs to be changed into ArrayRef(some_uint8_pointer, (size_t)0) to avoid an ambiguous call with ArrayRef((uint8_t*), (uint8_t*))
2. CVSymbol sym(makeArrayRef(symStorage)); needed to be rewritten as CVSymbol sym{ArrayRef(symStorage)}; otherwise the compiler is confused and thinks we have a (bad) function prototype. There was a few similar situation across the codebase.
3. ADL doesn't seem to work the same for deduction-guides and functions, so at some point the llvm namespace must be explicitly stated.
4. The "reference mode" of makeArrayRef(ArrayRef<T> &) that acts as no-op is not supported (a constructor cannot achieve that).
Per reviewers' comment, some useless makeArrayRef have been removed in the process.
This is a follow-up to https://reviews.llvm.org/D140896 that introduced
the deduction guides.
