In VPlanPatternMatch.h I have changed the int_pred_ty code to look
through broadcasts in order to catch more cases, i.e. multiplying by a
splat of one, etc.
The original patch, landed as a2db31b0 ([VPlan] Simplify pow-of-2
(mul|udiv) -> (shl|lshr), #172477) had a critical commutative matcher
bug, which has now been fixed. An assert has also been strengthened,
following a post-commit review.
In preparation to strip VPUnrollPartAccessor and unroll recipes
directly, strip unnecessary complication in getGEPIndexTy, as the unroll
part will no longer be available in follow-ups (see #168886 for
instance). The patch also helps by doing a mass test update up-front.
Narrowing the GEP index type conditionally does not yield any benefit,
and the change is non-functional in terms of emitted assembly. While at
it, avoid hard-coding address-space 0, and use the pointer operand's
address space to get the GEP index type.
Changes: The previous patch had to be reverted to a mismatching-OpType
assert in cse. The reduced-test has now been added corresponding to a
RVV pointer-induction, and the pointer-induction case has been updated
to use createOverflowingBinaryOp.
While at it, record VPIRFlags in VPWidenInductionRecipe.
Move creation of the minimum iteration check for the epilogue vector
loop to VPlan. This is a first step towards breaking up and moving
skeleton creation for epilogue vectorization to VPlan.
It moves most logic out of EpilogueVectorizerEpilogueLoop: the minimum
iteration check is created directly in VPlan, connecting the check
blocks from the main vector loop is done as post-processing. Next steps
are to move connecting and updating the branches from the check blocks
to VPlan, as well as updating the incoming values for phis.
Test changes are improvements due to folding of live-ins.

Look through extractvalue to simplify umul_with_overflow where one of
the operands is 1.
This removes some redundant instructions when expanding SCEVs, which in
turn makes the runtime check cost estimate more accurate, reducing the
minimum iterations for which vectorization is profitable.

VPVectorPointer for part 0 is just the pointer operand. Simplify it
after unrolling. This removes a large number of redundant GEPs with
index 0.

After unrolling, there may be additional simplifications that can be
applied. One example is removing SCALAR-STEPS for the first part where
only the first lane is demanded.
This removes redundant adds of 0 from a large number of tests (~200),
many which I am still working on updating.

Follow-up as discussed when using VPInstruction::ResumePhi for all resume
values (#112147). This patch explicitly adds incoming values for each
predecessor in VPlan. This simplifies codegen and allows transformations
adjusting the predecessors of blocks with
NFC modulo incoming block order in phis.
Currently we fail to detect the case where BTC + 1 wraps, i.e. the
vector trip count is 0, In those cases, the minimum iteration count
check will fail, and the vector code will never be executed.
Explicitly check for this condition in computeMaxVF and avoid trying to
vectorize alltogether.
Note that a number of tests needed to be updated, because the vector
loop would never be executed given the input IR.
Fixes https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/122558.
This was originally done to reduce the diff for the change. Remove it
and update the remaining tests. NFC modulo reordering of incoming
values.

Updated ILV.createInductionResumeValues (now createInductionResumeVPValue)

created resume values.
This is the first step towards modeling them completely in VPlan.
Subsequent patches will move creation of the resume values completely

Update createScalarIVSteps to take an insert point as parameter. This
ensures that the inserted scalar steps are in the same order as the
recipes they replace (vs in reverse order as currently). This helps to
reduce the diff for follow-up changes.
Move vector pointer generation to a separate VPVectorPointerRecipe.
This untangles address computation from the memory recipes future
and is also needed to enable explicit unrolling in VPlan.

At the moment LV runs LoopSimplify and reconstructs LCSSA form after
generating the main vector loop and before generating the epilogue
vector loop.
In practice, this adds a new exit block for the scalar loop because the
middle block now also branches to the original exit block of the scalar
loop. It also requires adding a new LCSSA phi in the newly created exit
block.
This complicates things when modeling exit values in VPlan, because we
would need to update the VPlan for the epilogue loop to update the newly
created LCSSA phi node.
But none of that should be necessary, as all analysis requiring
loop-simplify form is already done at this point and LCSSA form of the
original loop is not broken.

9345ab3a4550 updated generateOverflowCheck to skip creating checks that
always evaluate to false. This in turn means that we only need to check
for overflows if the result of the multiplication is actually used.
Sink the Or for the overflow check into ComputeEndCheck, so it is only
created when there's an actual check.
Currently generateOverflowCheck always creates code for Step being
negative and positive, followed by a select at the end depending on
Step's sign.
This patch updates the code to only create either the checks for step
being positive or negative, if the sign is known.

This patch updates SCEVExpander::expandUnionPredicate to not create
redundant 'or false, x' instructions. While those are trivially
foldable, they can be easily avoided and hinder code that checks the
size/cost of the generated checks before further folds.
I am planning on look into a few other similar improvements to code
generated by SCEVExpander.
I remember a while ago @lebedev.ri working on doing some trivial folds
like that in IRBuilder itself, but there where concerns that such
changes may subtly break existing code.

While we could emit such a tautological `select`,
it will stick around until the next instsimplify invocation,
which may happen after we count the cost of this redundant `select`.
Which is precisely what happens with loop vectorization legality checks,
and that artificially increases the cost of said checks,
which is bad.
There is prior art for this in `IRBuilderBase::CreateAnd()`/`IRBuilderBase::CreateOr()`.

This patch marks the induction increment of the main induction variable
of the vector loop as NUW when not folding the tail.
If the tail is not folded, we know that End - Start >= Step (either
statically or through the minimum iteration checks). We also know that both
Start % Step == 0 and End % Step == 0. We exit the vector loop if %IV +
%Step == %End. Hence we must exit the loop before %IV + %Step unsigned
overflows and we can mark the induction increment as NUW.
This should make SCEV return more precise bounds for the created vector
loops, used by later optimizations, like late unrolling.
At the moment quite a few tests still need to be updated, but before
doing so I'd like to get initial feedback to make sure I am not missing
anything.
Note that this could probably be further improved by using information
from the original IV.
