618a890b72 [X86] Increase the depth threshold required to form VPERMI2W/VPERMI2B in shuffle combining
These instructions are implemented with two port 5 uops and one port 015 uop so they are more complicated that most shuffles.

This patch increases the depth threshold for when we form them during shuffle combining to try to limit increasing the number of uops especially on port 5.

9b645ebfff [X86][AVX] Use lowerShuffleWithPERMV in shuffle combining to support non-VLX targets
lowerShuffleWithPERMV allows us to use the ZMM variants for 128/256-bit variable shuffles on non-VLX AVX512 targets.

This is another step towards shuffle combining through between vector widths - we still end up with an annoying regression (combine_vpermilvar_vperm2f128_zero_8f32) but we're going in the right direction....

21d02dc595 [X86][SSE] SimplifyDemandedVectorEltsForTargetNode - add general shuffle combining support
This patch uses partial DemandedElts masks to further simplify target shuffle chains and finally starts making target shuffle combining part of SimplifyDemandedBits/SimplifyDemandedVectorElts.

We already manage this for Depth == 0 cases, where combineX86ShuffleChain would early-out if the shuffle combined to the same op, but the patch generalizes this by manipulating the depth handling of combineX86ShufflesRecursively - calling with a new Depth = 0 and reducing the maximum shuffle combine depth accordingly.

0c005be6eb [X86][SSE] getV4X86ShuffleImm8 - canonicalize broadcast masks
If the mask input to getV4X86ShuffleImm8 only refers to a single source element (+ undefs) then canonicalize to a full broadcast.

getV4X86ShuffleImm8 defaults to inline values for undefs, which can be useful for shuffle widening/narrowing but does leave SimplifyDemanded* calls thinking the shuffle depends on unnecessary elements.

I'm still investigating what we should do more generally to avoid these undemanded elements, but broadcast cases was a simpler win.

17eafe0841 [X86][SSE] lowerV2I64Shuffle - use undef elements in PSHUFD mask widening
If we lower a v2i64 shuffle to PSHUFD, we currently clamp undef elements to 0, (elements 0,1 of the v4i32) which can result in the shuffle referencing more elements of the source vector than expected, affecting later shuffle combines and KnownBits/SimplifyDemanded calls.

By ensuring we widen the undef mask element we allow getV4X86ShuffleImm8 to use inline elements as the default, which are more likely to fold.

fb9f9dc318 [X86][SSE] Add SimplifyDemandedVectorEltsForTargetShuffle to handle target shuffle variable masks
Pulled out from the ongoing work on D66004, currently we don't do a good job of simplifying variable shuffle masks that have already lowered to constant pool entries.

This patch adds SimplifyDemandedVectorEltsForTargetShuffle (a custom x86 helper) to first try SimplifyDemandedVectorElts (which we already do) and then constant pool simplification to help mark undefined elements.

To prevent lowering/combines infinite loops, we only handle basic constant pool loads instead of creating new BUILD_VECTOR nodes for lowering - e.g. we don't try to convert them to broadcast/vzext_load - there might be some benefit to this but if so I'd rather we come up with some way to reuse existing code than reimplement a lot of BUILD_VECTOR code.

8dfb9627b7 [X86] Make v32i16/v64i8 legal types without avx512bw. Use custom splitting instead.
This moves v32i16/v64i8 to a model consistent with how we
treat integer types with avx1.

This does change the ABI for types vXi16/vXi8 vectors larger than
512 bits to pass in multiple zmms instead of multiple ymms. We'd
already hacked some code to make v64i8/v32i16 pass in zmm.

Cost model is still a bit of a mess. In some place I tried to
match existing behavior. But really we need to account for
splitting and concating costs. Cost model for shuffles is
especially pessimistic.

8b5f2ab2a4 Recommit r367901 "[X86] Enable -x86-experimental-vector-widening-legalization by default."
The assert that caused this to be reverted should be fixed now.

Original commit message:

This patch changes our defualt legalization behavior for 16, 32, and
64 bit vectors with i8/i16/i32/i64 scalar types from promotion to
widening. For example, v8i8 will now be widened to v16i8 instead of
promoted to v8i16. This keeps the elements widths the same and pads
with undef elements. We believe this is a better legalization strategy.
But it carries some issues due to the fragmented vector ISA. For
example, i8 shifts and multiplies get widened and then later have
to be promoted/split into vXi16 vectors.

This has the potential to cause regressions so we wanted to get
it in early in the 10.0 cycle so we have plenty of time to
address them.

Next steps will be to merge tests that explicitly test the command
line option. And then we can remove the option and its associated
code.

76bc3d6e07 [X86] In lowerVectorShuffle, instead of creating a new node to canonicalize the shuffle mask by commuting, just commute the mask and swap V1/V2.
LegalizeDAG tries to legal the DAG by legalizing nodes before
their operands.

If we create a new node, we end up legalizing it after its operands.
This prevents some of the optimizations that can be done when the
operand is a build_vector since the build_vector will have been
legalized to something else.

95b8d9bbf8 [SelectionDAG] computeKnownBits - support constant pool values from target
This patch adds the overridable TargetLowering::getTargetConstantFromLoad function which allows targets to return any constant value loaded by a LoadSDNode node - only X86 makes use of this so far but everything should be in place for other targets.

computeKnownBits then uses this function to improve codegen, notably vector code after legalization.

A future commit will do the same for ComputeNumSignBits but computeKnownBits sees the bigger benefit.

This required a couple of fixes:
* SimplifyDemandedBits must early-out for getTargetConstantFromLoad cases to prevent infinite loops of constant regeneration (similar to what we already do for BUILD_VECTOR).
* Fix a DAGCombiner::visitTRUNCATE issue as we had trunc(shl(v8i32),v8i16) <-> shl(trunc(v8i16),v8i32) infinite loops after legalization on AVX512 targets.

12685d0f7c [DAGCombiner] simplify shuffle of shuffle
After investigating the examples from D59777 targeting an SSE4.1 machine,
it looks like a very different problem due to how we map illegal types (256-bit in these cases).

We're missing a shuffle simplification that maps elements of a vector back to a shuffled operand.
We have a more general version of this transform in DAGCombiner::visitVECTOR_SHUFFLE(), but that
generality means it is limited to patterns with a one-use constraint, and the examples here have
2 uses. We don't need any uses or legality limitations for a simplification (no new value is
created).

It looks like we miss this pattern in IR too.

In one of the zext examples here, we have shuffle masks like this:

Shuf0 = vector_shuffle<0,u,3,7,0,u,3,7>
Shuf = vector_shuffle<4,u,6,7,u,u,u,u>

...so that's moving the high half of the 1st vector into the low half. But the high half of the
1st vector is already identical to the low half.

1df0bb6264 [x86] improve AVX lowering of vector zext
If we know the 2 halves of an oversized zext-in-reg are the same,
don't create those halves independently.

I tried several different approaches to fold this, but it's difficult
to get right during legalization. In the default path, we are creating
a generic shuffle that looks like an unpack high, but it can get
transformed into a different mask (a blend), so it's not
straightforward to match that. If we try to fold after it actually
becomes an X86ISD::UNPCKH node, we can't be sure what the operand node
is - it might be a generic shuffle, or it could be some x86-specific op.

From the test output, we should be doing something like this for SSE4.1
as well, but I'd rather leave that as a follow-up since it involves
changing lowering actions.

ccb71b2985 Revert rL356864 : [X86][SSE41] Start shuffle combining from ZERO_EXTEND_VECTOR_INREG (PR40685)
Enable SSE41 ZERO_EXTEND_VECTOR_INREG shuffle combines - for the PMOVZX(PSHUFD(V)) -> UNPCKH(V,0) pattern we reduce the shuffles (port5-bottleneck on Intel) at the expense of creating a zero (pxor v,v) and an extra register move - which is a good trade off as these are pretty cheap and in most cases it doesn't increase register pressure.

fa6187d230 [LegalizeVectorOps] Improve the placement of ANDs in the ExpandLoad path for non-byte-sized loads.
When we need to merge two adjacent loads the AND mask for the low piece was still sized for the full src element size. But we didn't have that many bits. The upper bits are already zero due to the SRL. So we can skip the AND if we're going to combine with the high bits.

We do need an AND to clear out any bits from the high part. We were anding the high part before combining with the low part, but it looks like ANDing after the OR gets better results.

So we can just emit the final AND after the optional concatentation is done. That will handling skipping before the OR and get rid of extra high bits after the OR.

60c202a494 [X86] Don't emit *_extend_vector_inreg nodes when both the input and output types are legal with AVX1
We already have custom lowering for the AVX case in LegalizeVectorOps. So its better to keep the regular extend op around as long as possible.

I had to qualify one place in DAG combine that created illegal vector extending load operations. This change by itself had no effect on any tests which is why its included here.

I've made a few cleanups to the custom lowering. The sign extend code no longer creates an identity shuffle with undef elements. The zero extend code now emits a zero_extend_vector_inreg instead of an unpckl with a zero vector.

For the high half of the custom lowering of zero_extend/any_extend, we're now using an unpckh with a zero vector or undef. Previously we used used a pshufd to move the upper 64-bits to the lower 64-bits and then used a zero_extend_vector_inreg. I think the zero vector should require less execution resources and be smaller code size.

2d0f20cc04 [X86] Handle COPYs of physregs better (regalloc hints)
Enable enableMultipleCopyHints() on X86.

Original Patch by @jonpa:

While enabling the mischeduler for SystemZ, it was discovered that for some reason a test needed one extra seemingly needless COPY (test/CodeGen/SystemZ/call-03.ll). The handling for that is resulted in this patch, which improves the register coalescing by providing not just one copy hint, but a sorted list of copy hints. On SystemZ, this gives ~12500 less register moves on SPEC, as well as marginally less spilling.

Instead of improving just the SystemZ backend, the improvement has been implemented in common-code (calculateSpillWeightAndHint(). This gives a lot of test failures, but since this should be a general improvement I hope that the involved targets will help and review the test updates.

bfc5fb4571 Re-enable "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
Issues addressed since original review:
- Avoid bug in regalloc greedy/machine verifier when forwarding to use
in an instruction that re-defines the same virtual register.
- Fixed bug when forwarding to use in EarlyClobber instruction slot.
- Fixed incorrect forwarding to register definitions that showed up in
  explicit_uses() iterator (e.g. in INLINEASM).
- Moved removal of dead instructions found by
LiveIntervals::shrinkToUses() outside of loop iterating over
instructions to avoid instructions being deleted while pointed to by
  iterator.
- Fixed ARMLoadStoreOptimizer bug exposed by this change in r311907.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to physical register uses, since
doing so can break code that implicitly relies on the physical
  register number of the use.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to undef uses, since doing so
can break the machine verifier by creating LiveRanges that don't
end on a use (since the undef operand is not considered a use).

[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding

This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding.

This change also extends the MachineCopyPropagation pass to be able to
be run during register allocation, after physical registers have been
assigned, but before the virtual registers have been re-written, which
allows it to remove virtual register COPY LiveIntervals that become dead
through the forwarding of all of their uses.

65528f2991 Re-enable "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
