1d68e0a075 Reland [DWARF] Location-less inlined variables should not have DW_TAG_variable
Originally landed in ddc2f1e3fb4 and reverted in d32deaab4d because of
a Generic test objecting. That was fixed up in 013613964fd9. Original

DwarfDebug::collectEntityInfo accidentally distinguishes between variable
locations that never have a location specified, and variable locations that
have an empty location specified. The latter leads to the creation of an
empty variable referring to the abstract origin.

Fix this by seeking a non-empty location before producing a concrete
entity, to guarantee a DW_AT_location will be produced. Other loops in
collectEntityInfo and endFunctionImpl take care of examining the
retainedNodes collection and ensuring optimised-out variables are created.

added "arm64" to the XFail list (as well as aarch64), will follow up on

There's a report in D95617 that this is failing on what (I think?) is an
aarch64 bot, which should be covered by the XFail list... reverting this
follow-up and the base patch until I work out what's wrong here.

e05c10380c [DebugInfo] Re-engineer a test to be stricter, add XFails
In the LLVM-IR for this test, the inlined argument "b" in the "a" function
is optimized out on certain architectures, not on others. This hasn't been
reported as a test failure since 93faeecd8fa and ff2073a51 because we would
create a variable that looks like this:

  DW_TAG_formal_parameter
    DW_AT_abstract_origin

With no further information (and no location). With D95617 however, we
stop emitting such variables.

Prior to landing D95617: make this test stricter by checking that the
variable mentioned above has a location. We have to accept that on certain
architectures this goes missing, so add those to the XFail list.

I've run a few experiments, and right now it looks likely only powerpc64
still drops the variable location.

fea067bdfd [mem2reg] Remove dbg.values describing contents of dead allocas
This patch copies @vsk's fix to instcombine from D85555 over to mem2reg. The
motivation and rationale are exactly the same: When mem2reg removes an alloca,
it erases the dbg.{addr,declare} instructions which refer to the alloca. It
would be better to instead remove all debug intrinsics which describe the
contents of the dead alloca, namely all dbg.value(<dead alloca>, ...,
DW_OP_deref)'s.

As far as I can tell, prior to D80264 these `dbg.value+deref`s would have been
silently dropped instead of being made `undef`, so we're just returning to
previous behaviour with these patches.

Testing:
`llvm-lit llvm/test` and `ninja check-clang` gave no unexpected failures. Added
3 tests, each of which covers a dbg.value deletion path in mem2reg:
  mem2reg-promote-alloca-1.ll
  mem2reg-promote-alloca-2.ll
  mem2reg-promote-alloca-3.ll
The first is based on the dexter test inlining.c from D89543. This patch also
improves the debugging experience for loop.c from D89543, which suffers
similarly after arg promotion instead of inlining.

Introduce a helper which can be used to update the debug location of an
Instruction after the instruction is hoisted. This can be used to safely
drop a source location as recommended by the docs.

24c3dabef4 DebugInfo: Emit class template parameters first, before members
This reads more like what you'd expect the DWARF to look like (from the
lexical order of C++ - template parameters come before members, etc),
and also happens to make it easier to tickle (& thus test) a bug related

7af4bbb643 [test] XFAIL two tests with inlining debug info issues on Sparc
Currently only two test failures remain on Sparc, both
`sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11` and `sparc64-unknown-linux-gnu`:

  LLVM :: DebugInfo/Generic/debug-label-inline.ll
  LLVM :: Linker/subprogram-linkonce-weak.ll

They seem related in that debug info isn't generated for instruction
bundles (like `retl+add` in the delay slot).

I've filed separate bugs for both files (Bug 47129 and 47131), though it's
probably the same issue.

This patch `XFAIL`s the tests.

Tested on `sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11` and `amd64-pc-solaris2.11`.

54b6cca0f2 [globalopt] Change so that emitting fragments doesn't use the type size of DIVariables
When turning on -debug-info-kind=constructor we ran into a "fragment covers
entire variable" error during thinlto. The fragment is currently always
emitted if there is no type size, but sometimes the variable has a
forward declared struct type which doesn't have a size.

This changes the code to get the type size from the GlobalVariable instead.

4a646ca9e2 [Instruction] Add updateLocationAfterHoist helper
Introduce a helper on Instruction which can be used to update the debug
location after hoisting.

Use this in GVN and LICM, where we were mistakenly introducing new line
0 locations after hoisting (the docs recommend dropping the location in
this case).

On `amd64-pc-solaris2.11`, the corresponding line is

while on `sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11` we have only

This happens because Sparc currently emits `.section` directives using the
style of the Solaris/SPARC assembler (controlled by `SunStyleELFSectionSwitchSyntax`).

This patch takes the easy way out and allows both forms while tightening the
check to only match the `.section` directive.

Tested on `sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11`, `amd64-pc-solaris2.11`,
`x86_64-pc-linux-gnu`, and `x86_64-apple-darwin20.0.0`.

7683a084de Remove lit feature object-emission
Summary: The lit feature object-emission was added because Hexagon did not support the integrated assembler, so some tests needed to be turned off with a Hexagon target. Hexagon now supports the integrated assembler, so this feature can be removed.

5a56a25b0b [CodeGenPrepare] Make TargetPassConfig required
The code paths in the absence of TargetMachine, TargetLowering or
TargetRegisterInfo are poorly tested. As rL285987 said, requiring

An ARM buildbot croaks when this test doesn't have a triple specified:

c93a9b15ce [DebugInfo][CGP] Update dbg.values when sinking address computations
One of CodeGenPrepare's optimizations is to duplicate address calculations
into basic blocks, so that as much information as possible can be folded
into memory addressing operands. This is great -- but the dbg.value
variable location intrinsics are not updated in the same way. This can lead
to dbg.values referring to address computations in other blocks that will
never be encoded into the DAG, while duplicate address computations are
performed locally that could be used by the dbg.value. Some of these (such
as non-constant-offset GEPs) can't be salvaged past.

Fix this by, whenever we duplicate an address computation into a block,
looking for dbg.value users of the original memory address in the same
block, and redirecting those to the local computation.

0779dffbd4 Remove the obsolete BlockByRefStruct flag from LLVM IR
DIFlagBlockByRefStruct is an unused DIFlag that originally was used by
clang to express (Objective-)C block captures in debug info. For the
last year Clang has been emitting complex DIExpressions to describe
block captures instead, which makes all the code supporting this flag
redundant.

This patch removes the flag and all supporting "dead" code, so we can
reuse the bit for something else in the future.

Since this only affects debug info generated by Clang with the block
extension this mostly affects Apple platforms and I don't have any
bitcode compatibility concerns for removing this. The Verifier will
reject debug info that uses the bit and thus degrade gracefully when
LTO'ing older bitcode with a newer compiler.

9cac4e6d14 Rename ExpandISelPseudo->FinalizeISel, delay register reservation
This allows targets to make more decisions about reserved registers
after isel. For example, now it should be certain there are calls or
stack objects in the frame or not, which could have been introduced by
legalization.

f4dfd63c74 [IR] Disallow llvm.global_ctors and llvm.global_dtors of the 2-field form in textual format
The 3-field form was introduced by D3499 in 2014 and the legacy 2-field
form was planned to be removed in LLVM 4.0

For the textual format, this patch migrates the existing 2-field form to
use the 3-field form and deletes the compatibility code.
test/Verifier/global-ctors-2.ll checks we have a friendly error message.

For bitcode, lib/IR/AutoUpgrade UpgradeGlobalVariables will upgrade the
2-field form (add i8* null as the third field).

2f6ef2fc92 DWARF v5: emit DW_AT_addr_base if DW_AT_low_pc references .debug_addr
The condition !AddrPool.empty() is tested before attachRangesOrLowHighPC(), which may add an entry to AddrPool. We emit DW_AT_low_pc (DW_FORM_addrx) but may incorrectly omit DW_AT_addr_base for LineTablesOnly. This can be easily reproduced:

clang -gdwarf-5 -gmlt -c a.cc

Fix this by moving !AddrPool.empty() below.

This was discovered while investigating an lld crash (fixed by D61889) on such object files: ld.lld --gdb-index a.o

a2b780b731 [DebugInfo] Use zero linenos for debug intrinsics when promoting dbg.declare
In certain circumstances, optimizations pick line numbers from debug
intrinsic instructions as the new location for altered instructions. This
is problematic because the line number of a debugging intrinsic is
meaningless (it doesn't produce any machine instruction), only the scope
information is valid. The result can be the line number of a variable
declaration "leaking" into real code from debugging intrinsics, making the
line table un-necessarily jumpy, and potentially different with / without
variable locations.

Fix this by using zero line numbers when promoting dbg.declare intrinsics
into dbg.values: this is safe for debug intrinsics as their line numbers
are meaningless, and reduces the scope for damage / misleading stepping
when optimizations pick locations from the wrong place.

e6e8db5e9b Debug Info: Support address space attributes on rvalue references.
DWARF5, 2.12 20ff says that

Any debugging information entry representing a pointer or reference
type [may have a DW_AT_address_class attribute].

The existing code (https://reviews.llvm.org/D29670) seems to take a
quite literal interpretation of that wording. I don't see a reason why
an rvalue reference isn't a reference type in the spirit of that
paragraph. This patch allows rvalue references to also have address
spaces.

Using line 0 locations achieves the same effect, but works better for

6ed5706a2b Add LLVM IR debug info support for Fortran COMMON blocks
COMMON blocks are a feature of Fortran that has no direct analog in C languages, but they are similar to data sections in assembly language programming. A COMMON block is a named area of memory that holds a collection of variables. Fortran subprograms may map the COMMON block memory area to their own, possibly distinct, non-empty list of variables. A Fortran COMMON block might look like the following example.

    COMMON /ALPHA/ I, J

    For this construct, the compiler generates a new scope-like DI construct (!DICommonBlock) into which variables (see I, J above) can be placed. As the common block implies a range of storage with global lifetime, the !DICommonBlock refers to a !DIGlobalVariable. The Fortran variable that comprise the COMMON block are also linked via metadata to offsets within the global variable that stands for the entire common block.

38a6187396 [DebugInfoMetadata] Move main subprogram DIFlag into DISPFlags
Moving subprogram specific flags into DISPFlags makes IR code more readable.
In addition, we provide free space in DIFlags for other
'non-subprogram-specific' debug info flags.

b86ce219f4 [DebugInfo] Introduce DW_OP_LLVM_convert
Introduce a DW_OP_LLVM_convert Dwarf expression pseudo op that allows
for a convenient way to perform type conversions on the Dwarf expression
stack. As an additional bonus it paves the way for using other Dwarf
v5 ops that need to reference a base_type.

The new DW_OP_LLVM_convert is used from lib/Transforms/Utils/Local.cpp
to perform sext/zext on debug values but mainly the patch is about
preparing terrain for adding other Dwarf v5 ops that need to reference a
base_type.

For Dwarf v5 the op maps to DW_OP_convert and for earlier versions a
complex shift & mask pattern is generated to emulate sext/zext.

This is a recommit of r356442 with trivial fixes for the failing tests.
