Also improve assembler parser register validation for .seh_ directives.
This requires moving X86-specific seh directive handling into the x86
backend, which addresses some assembler FIXMEs.

This reverts r369664 (git commit 51f48295cbe8fa3a44db263b528dd9f7bae7bf9a)
It causes many benchmark regressions, internally and in llvm's benchmark suite.
llvm-svn: 370398
Patch https://reviews.llvm.org/D43256 introduced more aggressive loop layout optimization which depends on profile information. If profile information is not available, the statically estimated profile information(generated by BranchProbabilityInfo.cpp) is used. If user program doesn't behave as BranchProbabilityInfo.cpp expected, the layout may be worse.
To be conservative this patch restores the original layout algorithm in plain mode. But user can still try the aggressive layout optimization with -force-precise-rotation-cost=true.

It caused assertions to fire when building Chromium:
lib/CodeGen/LiveDebugValues.cpp:331: bool
{anonymous}::LiveDebugValues::OpenRangesSet::empty() const: Assertion
`Vars.empty() == VarLocs.empty() && "open ranges are inconsistent"' failed.
See https://crbug.com/992871#c3 for how to reproduce.

Current findBestLoopTop can find and move one kind of block to top, a latch block has one successor. Another common case is:
* a latch block
* it has two successors, one is loop header, another is exit
* it has more than one predecessors
If it is below one of its predecessors P, only P can fall through to it, all other predecessors need a jump to it, and another conditional jump to loop header. If it is moved before loop header, all its predecessors jump to it, then fall through to loop header. So all its predecessors except P can reduce one taken branch.

Summary:
I found the following case having tail blocks with no successors merging opportunities after block placement.
Before block placement:
bb0:
...
bne a0, 0, bb2:
bb1:
mv a0, 1
ret
bb2:
...
bb3:
mv a0, 1
ret
bb4:
mv a0, -1
ret
The conditional branch bne in bb0 is opposite to beq.
After block placement:
bb0:
...
beq a0, 0, bb1
bb2:
...
bb4:
mv a0, -1
ret
bb1:
mv a0, 1
ret
bb3:
mv a0, 1
ret
After block placement, that appears new tail merging opportunity, bb1 and bb3 can be merged as one block. So the conditional constraint for merging tail blocks with no successors should be removed. In my experiment for RISC-V, it decreases code size.

The original commit was reverted in r283329 due to a miscompile in
Chromium. That turned out to be the same issue as PR31257, which was
fixed in r295262.
llvm-svn: 295357
This reverts r294348, which removed support for conditional tail calls
due to the PR above. It fixes the PR by marking live registers as
implicitly used and defined by the now predicated tailcall. This is
similar to how IfConversion predicates instructions.

They are currently modelled incorrectly (as calls, which clobber
registers, confusing e.g. Machine Copy Propagation).
Reverting until we figure out the proper solution.
llvm-svn: 294348
We can't use Jcc to leave a Win64 function in general, because that
confuses the unwinder. However, for "leaf" functions, that is, functions
where the return address is always on top of the stack and which don't
have unwind info, it's OK.
Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D24836
llvm-svn: 282920
That confuses e.g. machine basic block placement, which then doesn't
realize that control can fall through a block that ends with a conditional
tail call. Instead, isBranch=1 should be set.
Also, mark EFLAGS as used by these instructions.
llvm-svn: 281281
This extends the optimization in r280832 to also work for 64-bit. The only
quirk is that we can't do this for 64-bit Windows (yet).
Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D24423
llvm-svn: 281113
When branching to a block that immediately tail calls, it is possible to fold
the call directly into the branch if the call is direct and there is no stack
adjustment, saving one byte.
Example:
define void @f(i32 %x, i32 %y) {
entry:
%p = icmp eq i32 %x, %y
br i1 %p, label %bb1, label %bb2
bb1:
tail call void @foo()
ret void
bb2:
tail call void @bar()
ret void
}
before:
f:
movl 4(%esp), %eax
cmpl 8(%esp), %eax
jne .LBB0_2
jmp foo
.LBB0_2:
jmp bar
after:
f:
movl 4(%esp), %eax
cmpl 8(%esp), %eax
jne bar
.LBB0_1:
jmp foo
I don't expect any significant size savings from this (on a Clang bootstrap I
saw 288 bytes), but it does make the code a little tighter.
This patch only does 32-bit, but 64-bit would work similarly.
