07a1787501 [X86] Merge the FR128 and VR128 regclass since they have identical spill and alignment characteristics.
This unfortunately requires a bunch of bitcasts to be added added to SUBREG_TO_REG, COPY_TO_REGCLASS, and instructions in output patterns. Otherwise tablegen seems to default to picking f128 and then we fail when something tries to get the register class for f128 which isn't always valid.

The test changes are because we were previously mixing fr128 and vr128 due to contrainRegClass finding FR128 first and passes like live range shrinking weren't handling that well.

1d6a80cd95 [X86] Remove some composite MOVSS/MOVSD isel patterns.
These patterns looked for a MOVSS/SD followed by a scalar_to_vector. Or a scalar_to_vector followed by a load.

In both cases we emitted a MOVSS/SD for the MOVSS/SD part, a REG_CLASS for the scalar_to_vector, and a MOVSS/SD for the load.

But we have patterns that do each of those 3 things individually so there's no reason to build large patterns.

Most of the test changes are just reorderings. The one test that had a meaningful change is pr30430.ll and it appears to be a regression. But its doing -O0 so I think it missed a lot of opportunities and was just getting lucky before.

63c378d343 Go back to sometimes assuming intristics are local.
This fixes pr36674.

While it is valid for shouldAssumeDSOLocal to return false anytime,
always returning false for intrinsics is not optimal on i386 and also
hits a bug in the backend.

To use a plt, the caller must first setup ebx to handle the case of
that file being linked into a PIE executable or shared library. In
those cases the generated PLT uses ebx.

Currently we can produce "calll expf@plt" without setting ebx. We
could fix that by correctly setting ebx, but this would produce worse
code for the case where the runtime library is statically linked. It
would also required other tools to handle R_386_PLT32.

c7e51805ff Bring back r323297.
It was reverted because it broke the grub build. The reason the grub
build broke is because grub does its own relocation processing and was
not handing R_386_PLT32. Since grub has no dynamic linker, the fix is
trivial: handle R_386_PLT32 exactly like R_386_PC32.

On the report it was noted that they are using
-fno-integrated-assembler. The upstream GAS (starting with
451875b4f976a527395e9303224c7881b65e12ed) will already be producing a
R_386_PLT32 anyway, so they have to update their code one way or the
other

Original message:

Don't assume a null GV is local for ELF and MachO.

This is already a simplification, and should help with avoiding a plt
reference when calling an intrinsic with -fno-plt.

With this change we return false for null GVs, so the caller only
needs to check the new metadata to decide if it should use foo@plt or
*foo@got.

48abac82b8 Revert "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
This reverts commit r323991.

This commit breaks target that don't model all the register constraints
in TableGen. So far the workaround was to set the
hasExtraXXXRegAllocReq, but it proves that it doesn't cover all the
cases.
For instance, when mutating an instruction (like in the lowering of
COPYs) the isRenamable flag is not properly updated. The same problem
will happen when attaching machine operand from one instruction to
another.

Geoff Berry is working on a fix in https://reviews.llvm.org/D43042.

94503c7bc3 [MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding
Summary:
This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding
and adds an additional run of the pass to the default pass pipeline just
after register allocation.

This version of this patch uses the newly added
MachineOperand::isRenamable bit to avoid forwarding registers is such a
way as to violate constraints that aren't captured in the
Machine IR (e.g. ABI or ISA constraints).

This change is a continuation of the work started in D30751.

In preparation for adding support for named vregs we are changing the sigil for
physical registers in MIR to '$' from '%'. This will prevent name clashes of
named physical register with named vregs.

a8a83d150f [CodeGen] Use MachineOperand::print in the MIRPrinter for MO_Register.
Work towards the unification of MIR and debug output by refactoring the
interfaces.

For MachineOperand::print, keep a simple version that can be easily called
from `dump()`, and a more complex one which will be called from both the
MIRPrinter and MachineInstr::print.

Add extra checks inside MachineOperand for detached operands (operands
with getParent() == nullptr).

bfc5fb4571 Re-enable "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
Issues addressed since original review:
- Avoid bug in regalloc greedy/machine verifier when forwarding to use
  in an instruction that re-defines the same virtual register.
- Fixed bug when forwarding to use in EarlyClobber instruction slot.
- Fixed incorrect forwarding to register definitions that showed up in
  explicit_uses() iterator (e.g. in INLINEASM).
- Moved removal of dead instructions found by
  LiveIntervals::shrinkToUses() outside of loop iterating over
  instructions to avoid instructions being deleted while pointed to by
  iterator.
- Fixed ARMLoadStoreOptimizer bug exposed by this change in r311907.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to physical register uses, since
  doing so can break code that implicitly relies on the physical
  register number of the use.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to undef uses, since doing so
  can break the machine verifier by creating LiveRanges that don't
  end on a use (since the undef operand is not considered a use).

  [MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding

  This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding.

  This change also extends the MachineCopyPropagation pass to be able to
  be run during register allocation, after physical registers have been
  assigned, but before the virtual registers have been re-written, which
  allows it to remove virtual register COPY LiveIntervals that become dead
  through the forwarding of all of their uses.

88f0c31f13 Avoid false dependencies of undef machine operands
This patch helps avoid false dependencies on undef registers by updating the machine instructions' undef operand to use a register that the instruction is truly dependent on, or use a register with clearance higher than Pref.

Pseudo example:

loop:
xmm0 = ...
xmm1 = vcvtsi2sdl eax, xmm0<undef>
... = inst xmm0
jmp loop

In this example, selecting xmm0 as the undef register creates false dependency between loop iterations.
This false dependency cannot be solved by inserting an xor before vcvtsi2sdl because xmm0 is alive at the point of the vcvtsi2sdl instruction.
Selecting a different register instead of xmm0, especially a register that is not used in the loop, will eliminate this problem.

7476bc89e9 Don't combine fp_round (fp_round x) if f80 to f16 is generated
Summary:
This patch skips DAG combine of fp_round (fp_round x) if it results in
an fp_round from f80 to f16.

fp_round from f80 to f16 always generates an expensive (and as yet,
unimplemented) libcall to __truncxfhf2. This prevents selection of
native f16 conversion instructions from f32 or f64. Moreover, the first
(value-preserving) fp_round from f80 to either f32 or f64 may become a
NOP in platforms like x86.

Officially, we don't acknowledge non-default configurations of MXCSR,

We don't support the pragma, so we can assume that the default

However, it's inconsistent with the rest of the instruction set,
where MXCSR is always effective (unless otherwise specified).
Also, it's an unnecessary obstacle to the few brave souls that use
fenv.h with LLVM.

Avoid the hard-coded rounding mode for fp_to_f16; use MXCSR instead.

9f7501896e findDeadCallerSavedReg needs to pay attention to calling convention
Caller saved regs differ between SysV and Win64. Use the tail call available set to scavenge from.

Refactor register info to create new helper to get at tail call GPRs. Added a new test case for windows. Fixed up a number of X64 tests since now RCX is preferred over RDX on SysV.

af171e7720 [X86] Updates to X86 backend for f16 promotion
Summary:
r235215 adds support for f16 to be considered as a load/store type and
promote f16 operations to f32.

This patch has miscellaneous fixes for the X86 backend so all f16
operations are handled:
1. Set loadextaction for f16 vectors to expand.
2. Handle FP_EXTEND in a switch statement when handling v2f32
3. Do not fold (FP_TO_SINT (load f16)) into FP_TO_INT*_IN_MEM or
(store (SINT_TO_FP )) to a FILD.

Tests included.

a79ac14fa6 [opaque pointer type] Add textual IR support for explicit type parameter to load instruction
Essentially the same as the GEP change in r230786.

A similar migration script can be used to update test cases, though a few more
test case improvements/changes were required this time around: (r229269-r229278)

import fileinput
import sys
import re

pat = re.compile(r"((?:=|:|^)\s*load (?:atomic )?(?:volatile )?(.*?))(| addrspace\(\d+\) *)\*($| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$)")

for line in sys.stdin:
  sys.stdout.write(re.sub(pat, r"\1, \2\3*\4", line))

20bd0ced30 CodeGen: soften f16 type by default instead of marking legal.
Actual support for softening f16 operations is still limited, and can be added
when it's needed. But Soften is much closer to being a useful thing to try
than keeping it Legal when no registers can actually hold such values.

Longer term, we probably want something between Soften and Promote semantics
for most targets, it'll be more efficient to promote the 4 basic operations to
f32 than libcall them.
