4cc7c749c3 [AIX] Align the content of an xcoff object file which has auxiliary header in big archive.
Summary:

if the member file is XCOFF object file and has auxiliary header, the content of the member file need to be aligned at the
MAX(maximum alignment of .text , maximum alignment of .data). The "maximum alignment of .text" and "maximum alignment of .data" are two
field of auxiliary header of XCOFF object file.

On z/OS, the following error message is not matched correctly in lit

[RISCV] Fix SiFive7 formula for Reductions and ordered Reductions (#65385)
Reductions specified the correct formula in the comments but was
implemented incorrectly.

Ordered reductions formula was refined to be more accurate to actual
hardware.

A llvm-mca test case for reductions is added so that we have a better
idea of how the model is performing.

ca8dbdc12a [llvm-exegesis] Add error for subprocess and dummy perf counters
When using the subprocess execution mode and dummy perf counters
currently, cryptic errors will be printed out related to not being able
to send the file descriptor through a socket. This patch prints out an
explicit message that this configuration isn't (currently) supported.

a5a6008988 [AArch64] Fix schedmodel pre/post-index loads and stores for Neoverse V2
Fix the operand description: the update was in the wrong place. As a result the
latency of the update was modelled incorrectly, it wasn't available as early as
it should. This was visible in llvm-mca timeline views.

This fixes the problem for the Neoverse V2, but the problem also affects the
other Neoverse cores.

097971b318 [DWARFLinkerParallel][PowerPC] Cure tests failing on powerpc machine.
location-expression.test and tls-variable.test failed because wrong
endianness was used on powerpc machine. To fix the issue this patch
uses endianness from debug map as endianness for the whole target file.
Previosly, architecture endianness won over what is specified
in debug map.

2bcc0fdc58 [llvm-windres] Implement the windres flag --use-temp-file
Whether a temp file or a pipe is used for preprocessing is an
internal detail, this flag has a notable effect on the preprocessing
in GNU windres. Without this flag, GNU windres passes command
arguments as-is to popen(), which means they get evaluated by a
shell without being re-escaped for this case. To mimic this,
llvm-windres has manually tried to unescape arguments.

When GNU windres is given the --use-temp-file flag, it uses a
different API for invoking the preprocessor, and this API takes care
of preserving special characters in the command line arguments.
For users of GNU windres, this means that by using --use-temp-file,
they don't need to do the (quite terrible) double escaping of
quotes/spaces etc.

The xz project uses the --use-temp-file flag when invoking
GNU windres, see
6b117d3b1f.
However as llvm-windres didn't implement this flag and just
assumed the GNU windres popen() behaviour, they had to use a
different codepath for llvm-windres.

That separate codepath for llvm-windres broke later when llvm-windres
got slightly more accurate unescaping of lone quotes in

windres as found in https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/57334),
and this was reported in

Not touching the implementation of the --preprocessor option
with respect to the --use-temp-file flag; that option is doubly
tricky as GNU windres changed its behaviour in a backwards incompatible
way recently (and llvm-windres currently matches the old behaviour).

[llvm-objdump] Enable disassembly color highlighting
Enable color highlighting of disassembly in llvm-objdump. This patch
introduces a new flag --disassembler-color=<mode> that enables or
disables highlighting disassembly with ANSI escape codes. The default
mode is to enable color highlighting if outputting to a color-enabled
terminal.

adc317d369 llvm-nm ignore the Import symbol file for the --export-symbol option.
Summary:

On AIX OS, clang may use llvm-nm to export the symbols from all input files (see 515c435e37/clang/lib/Driver/ToolChains/AIX.cpp (L236)). However, the clang command-line may include import files (identified by them starting with #!). llvm-nm previously reported "invalid object file" errors for import files, meaning that the clang driver would fail to link when import files are included this way.

In this patch, llvm-nm is changed to ignore import files when the --export-symbol option, meaning that clang will now succeed in this case.

1792852f86 [symbolizer] Change reaction on invalid input
If llvm-symbolizer finds a malformed command, it echoes it to the
standard output. New versions of binutils (starting from 2.39) allow to
specify an address by a symbols. Implementation of this feature in
llvm-symbolizer makes the current reaction on invalid input
inappropriate. Almost any invalid command may be treated as a symbol
name, so the right reaction should be "symbol not found" in such case.

The exception are commands that are recognized but have incorrect
syntax, like "FILE:FILE:". The utility must produce descriptive
diagnostic for such input and route it to the stderr.

This change implements the new reaction on invalid input and is a
prerequisite for implementation of symbol lookup in llvm-symbolizer.

998c323910 [UTC] Keep function args parenthesis on label line (bumps version to 3)
If the function argument block contains patterns, we split argument
matching into a separate SAME line, because LABEL labels may not contain
pattern matches.

Until now, in this case we moved the parenthesis opening the argument block
into the second line.

This generates incorrect labels in case function names are not prefix-free.

For example, for a function `foo` we generated:

   CHECK-LABEL: foo
   CHECK-SAME: (<args of foo>)

If the output also contains a function `foo.specialzied`, then the label for
`foo` can match `foo.specialized`, depending on output order.

This patch moves opening parenthesis to the first line, breaking common prefixes:

   CHECK-LABEL: foo(
   CHECK-SAME: <args of foo>)

Bump the UTC version to 3, and only move the parenthesis for version 3 and later.

742fa941f2 [llvm-exegesis] Skip codegen of known-invalid snippets
On some targets, not all types of instruction operands are currently
handled. Instead of stopping the whole llvm-exegesis run because of any
instruction opcode that is not fully supported, write a per-opcode error
message and proceed to other opcodes. This improves the reliability of
--opcode-index=-1 sweep on partially supported targets.

bea39c5443 [llvm-cov] Support directory layout in coverage reports
This is a GSoC 2023 project ([discourse link](https://discourse.llvm.org/t/coverage-support-a-hierarchical-directory-structure-in-generated-coverage-html-reports/68239)).

llvm-cov currently generates a single top-level index HTML file, which causes rendering scalability issues in large projects. This patch adds support for hierarchical directory structure into the HTML reports to solve scalability issues by introducing the following changes:

- Added a new command line option `--show-directory-coverage` for `llvm-cov show`. It works both for `--format=html` and `--format=text`.
- Two new classes: `CoveragePrinterHTMLDirectory` and `CoveragePrinterTextDirectory` was added to support the new option.
- A tool class `DirectoryCoverageReport` was added to support the two classes above.
- Updated the document.
- Added a new regression test for `--show-directory-coverage`.

f740bcb370 [AIX] supporting -X options for llvm-ranlib in AIX OS
Summary:

llvm-ar is symlinked as llvm-ranlib and will act as ranlib when invoked in that mode. llvm-ar since [[ 4f2cfbe531 | compiler/llvm-project@4f2cfbe ]] supports the -X options, but doesn't seem to accept them when running as llvm-ranlib.

In AIX OS , according to https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/aix/7.2?topic=r-ranlib-command

-X mode 	Specifies the type of object file ranlib should examine. The mode must be one of the following:

32
    Processes only 32-bit object files
64
    Processes only 64-bit object files
32_64, any
    Processes both 32-bit and 64-bit object files

The default is to process 32-bit object files (ignore 64-bit objects). The mode can also be set with the OBJECT_MODE environment variable. For example, OBJECT_MODE=64 causes ranlib to process any 64-bit objects and ignore 32-bit objects. The -X flag overrides the OBJECT_MODE variable.

We were running out of abbrevs and crashing if there were more than 20
something strings in metadata, which turned out to be a bug where we
created an abbrev every time we emitted a string rather than just one
for the string table.

6b539f5eb8 Reland "[gold] Add preliminary FatLTO support to the Gold plugin""
This changes the definition if isSectionBitcode to only be valid for the
.llvm.lto section, since this API is only called from LTO, and the
.llvmbc section was not intended to be used for LTO. This allows the
gold plugin to keep its existing behavior without introducing any
significant changes.

7624de5bea [llvm-profdata] Refactoring Sample Profile Reader to increase FDO build speed using MD5 as key to Sample Profile map
This is phase 1 of multiple planned improvements on the sample profile loader.   The major change is to use MD5 hash code ((instead of the function itself) as the key to look up the function offset table and the profiles, which significantly reduce the time it takes to construct the map.

The optimization is based on the fact that many practical sample profiles are using MD5 values for function names to reduce profile size, so we shouldn't need to convert the MD5 to a string and then to a SampleContext and use it as the map's key, because it's extremely slow.

Several changes to note:

(1) For non-CS SampleContext, if it is already MD5 string, the hash value will be its integral value, instead of hashing the MD5 again. In phase 2 this is going to be optimized further using a union to represent MD5 function (without converting it to string) and regular function names.

(2) The SampleProfileMap is a wrapper to *map<uint64_t, FunctionSamples>, while providing interface allowing using SampleContext as key, so that existing code still work. It will check for MD5 collision (unlikely but not too unlikely, since we only takes the lower 64 bits) and handle it to at least guarantee compilation correctness (conflicting old profile is dropped, instead of returning an old profile with inconsistent context). Other code should not try to use MD5 as key to access the map directly, because it will not be able to handle MD5 collision at all. (see exception at (5) )

(3) Any SampleProfileMap::emplace() followed by SampleContext assignment if newly inserted, should be replaced with SampleProfileMap::Create(), which does the same thing.

(4) Previously we ensure an invariant that in SampleProfileMap, the key is equal to the Context of the value, for profile map that is eventually being used for output (as in llvm-profdata/llvm-profgen). Since the key became MD5 hash, only the value keeps the context now, in several places where an intermediate SampleProfileMap is created, each new FunctionSample's context is set immediately after insertion, which is necessary to "remember" the context otherwise irretrievable.

(5) When reading a profile, we cache the MD5 values of all functions, because they are used at least twice (one to index into FuncOffsetTable, the other into SampleProfileMap, more if there are additional sections), in this case the SampleProfileMap is directly accessed with MD5 value so that we don't recalculate it each time (expensive)

Performance impact:
When reading a ~1GB extbinary profile (fixed length MD5, not compressed) with 10 million function names and 2.5 million top level functions (non CS functions, each function has varying nesting level from 0 to 20), this patch improves the function offset table loading time by 20%, and improves full profile read by 5%.

c94b6530bc [llvm-cov gcov] Drop support for clang<11's fake GCC 4.2 format
clang<11 intended to use a GCC 4.2 compatible format but that turned out
to make some mistakes. After instrumentation side format changes,
c8b082a3abe44138fff4ef824300270dd6e8bc77 kept supporting the legacy
format, originally intended for 1 or 2 major releases.

Remove an obsoleted comment as GCC 12 uses length==12 for
GCOV_TAG_FUNCTION in .gcda files.

Seems unlikely the warning would come from anywhere else and if
it does, this test isn't the one to be catching that. So I've
shortened the checks to start at "warning: ".

f8ad86c234 [llvm-cov] Fix a bug about using convert-for-testing on multi-source object files
`llvm-cov convert-for-testing` is used to build the .covmapping files used in its regression tests. However the current implementation only works when there's only one source file in the mapping information data. If there are more than 1 source files, `llvm-cov convert-for-testing` can still produce a .covmapping file, but when read it back, `llvm-cov` will report:

error: Failed to load coverage: 'main.covmapping': Malformed coverage data
```

This is because the output .covmapping file doesn't have any mark to indicate the boundary between file records and function records, and current implementation jsut assume there's only one file record in the .covmapping file.

Changes to the code:

- Make `llvm-cov convert-for-testing` output a LEB128 number before file records to indicate its size.
- Change the testing format parsing code correspondingly.
- Update existing .covmapping files.

2e7ee4dc21 [DWARFVerifier] Allow simplified template names in debug_name
LLDB can benefit from having the base name of functions (i.e. without any
template parameters) as an entry into accelerator tables pointing back in the
DIE for the corresponding function specialization. In fact, some LLDB
functionality is only possible when those entries are present.

The DWARFLinker has been adding such entries for a while now, both with
apple_names and with debug_names. However, this has two side effects:

1. Some LLDB functionality is only possible when dsym bundles are present (i.e.
the linker touched the debug info).
2. The DWARFVerifier doesn't accept debug_name sections created by the linker,
as such names are (usually) neither the AT_name nor the AT_linkage_name of the
DIE.

Based on recent discussion [1], and because the DWARF 5 spec says that:

> A producer may choose to implement additional rules for what names are placed
> in the index

This patch relaxes the checks on the verifier to allow for simplified template
names in the accelerator table. To do so, we move some helper functions from
DWARFLinker into the core lib debug info. This addresses the point 2) above.

This patch also enables addressing point 1) in the future, since the helper
function is now visible to other parts of LLVM.

The GFX11 scheduling model should be identical to GFX10, except for a
few tweaks to latencies.

This GFX10 change from D100123 was missed when GFX11 was added.

a5fe6c7f5e [symbolizer] Change reaction on invalid input
If llvm-symbolizer finds a malformed command, it echoes it to the
standard output. New versions of binutils (starting from 2.39) allow to
specify an address by a symbols. Implementation of this feature in
llvm-symbolizer makes the current reaction on invalid input
inappropriate. Almost any invalid command may be treated as a symbol
name, so the right reaction should be "symbol not found" in such case.

The exception are commands that are recognized but have incorrect
syntax, like "FILE:FILE:". The utility must produce descriptive
diagnostic for such input and route it to the stderr.

This change implements the new reaction on invalid input and is a
prerequisite for implementation of symbol lookup in llvm-symbolizer.

099f4e236c [llvm-debuginfod] Switch to xxh3_64bits
Many sources show that xxh3 is much better than xxh64. This particular
instance may or may not have noticeable difference, but this change
moves us toward removing xxHash64.

This change will invalid cache.
