Support alternative sections for patchable function entries (#131230)
With -fpatchable-function-entry (or the patchable_function_entry
function attribute), we emit records of patchable entry locations to the
__patchable_function_entries section. Add an additional parameter to the
command line option that allows one to specify a different default
section name for the records, and an identical parameter to the function
attribute that allows one to override the section used.

The main use case for this change is the Linux kernel using prefix NOPs
for ftrace, and thus depending on__patchable_function_entries to locate
traceable functions. Functions that are not traceable currently disable
entry NOPs using the function attribute, but this creates a
compatibility issue with -fsanitize=kcfi, which expects all indirectly
callable functions to have a type hash prefix at the same offset from
the function entry.

Adding a section parameter would allow the kernel to distinguish between
traceable and non-traceable functions by adding entry records to
separate sections while maintaining a stable function prefix layout for

Add support for fixed-point types (#129596)
This adds DWARF generation for fixed-point types. This feature is needed
by Ada.

Note that a pre-existing GNU extension is used in one case. This has
been emitted by GCC for years, and is needed because standard DWARF is
otherwise incapable of representing these types.

[CodeGen][StaticDataSplitter]Support constant pool partitioning (#129781)
This is a follow-up patch of
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/125756

In this PR, static-data-splitter pass produces the aggregated profile
counts of constants for constant pools in a global state
(`StateDataProfileInfo`), and asm printer consumes the profile counts to
produce `.hot` or `.unlikely` prefixes.

This implementation covers both x86 and aarch64 asm printer.

[RISCV] Replace @plt/@gotpcrel in data directives with %pltpcrel %gotpcrel
clang -fexperimental-relative-c++-abi-vtables might generate `@plt` and
`@gotpcrel` specifiers in data directives. The syntax is not used in
humand-written assembly code, and is not supported by GNU assembler.
Note: the `@plt` in `.word foo@plt` is different from
the legacy `call func@plt` (where `@plt` is simply ignored).

The `@plt` syntax was selected was simply due to a quirk of AsmParser:
the syntax was supported by all targets until I updated it
to be an opt-in feature in a0671758eb6e52a758bd1b096a9b421eec60204c

RISC-V favors the `%specifier(expr)` syntax following MIPS and Sparc,
and we should follow this convention.

This PR adds support for `.word %pltpcrel(foo+offset)` and
`.word %gotpcrel(foo)`, and drops `@plt` and `@gotpcrel`.

* MCValue::SymA can no longer have a SymbolVariant. Add an assert
  similar to that of AArch64ELFObjectWriter.cpp before
  https://reviews.llvm.org/D81446 (see my analysis at
  https://maskray.me/blog/2025-03-16-relocation-generation-in-assemblers
  if intrigued)
* `jump foo@plt, x31` now has a different diagnostic.

Add bit stride to DICompositeType (#131680)
In Ada, an array can be packed and the elements can take less space than
their natural object size. For example, for this type:

   type Packed_Array is array (4 .. 8) of Boolean;
   pragma pack (Packed_Array);

... each element of the array occupies a single bit, even though the
"natural" size for a Boolean in memory is a byte.

In DWARF, this is represented by putting a DW_AT_bit_stride onto the
array type itself.

This patch adds a bit stride to DICompositeType so that gnat-llvm can
emit DWARF for these sorts of arrays.

gained C++23-style insert_range.  This patch replaces:

  Dest.insert(Src.begin(), Src.end());

with:

This patch does not touch custom begin like succ_begin for now.

Reland: [MC] output inlined-at debug info (#106230) (#130306)
Reland https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/106230

The original PR was reverted due to compilation time regression.

This PR fixed that by adding a condition OutStreamer->isVerboseAsm() to
the generation of extra inlined-at debug info, so that it does not
affect normal compilation time.

Currently MC print source location of instructions in comments in
assembly when debug info is available, however, it does not include
inlined-at locations when a function is inlined.

For example, function foo is defined in header file a.h and is called
multiple times in b.cpp. If foo is inlined, current assembly will only
show its instructions with their line numbers in a.h. With inlined-at
locations, the assembly will also show where foo is called in b.cpp.

This patch adds inlined-at locations to the comments by using
DebugLoc::print. It makes the printed source location info consistent
with those printed by machine passes.

Two fixes for DISubrangeType (#130345)
My previous patch to add DISubrangeType (#126772) had a couple of minor
errors. This patch corrects them.

1. When using a DISubrangeType as an array index type, the wrong tag was
written into the DIE.

2. I'd intended for subranges to use bit strides, not byte strides --
but neglected to actually implement this. Ada needs bit strides.

This patch adds a new test that checks both these things.

Finally, this patch adds some documentation for DISubrangeType.

[win] Fix EH Cont Guard targets when SEH personality is used (#129612)
There were two issues when `/guard:ehcont` is enabled with the SEH
personality on Windows:
1. As @namazso correctly identified, we bail out of
`WinException::endFunction` early for `MSVC_TableSEH` with funclets,
expecting the exception data to be emitted in `endFunclet`, but
`endFunclet` didn't copy the EHCont metadata from the function to the
module.
2. The SEH personality requires that the basic block containing the
`catchpad` is the target, not the `catchret`.

[IR] Store Triple in Module (NFC) (#129868)
The module currently stores the target triple as a string. This means
that any code that wants to actually use the triple first has to
instantiate a Triple, which is somewhat expensive. The change in #121652
caused a moderate compile-time regression due to this. While it would be
easy enough to work around, I think that architecturally, it makes more
sense to store the parsed Triple in the module, so that it can always be
directly queried.

For this change, I've opted not to add any magic conversions between
std::string and Triple for backwards-compatibilty purses, and instead
write out needed Triple()s or str()s explicitly. This is because I think
a decent number of them should be changed to work on Triple as well, to
avoid unnecessary conversions back and forth.

The only interesting part in this patch is that the default triple is
Triple("") instead of Triple() to preserve existing behavior. The former
defaults to using the ELF object format instead of unknown object
format. We should fix that as well.

60486292b7 [MC] Move MIPS-specific gprel/tprel/dtprel from MCStreamer to MipsTargetStreamer
https://reviews.llvm.org/D23669 inappropriately added MIPS-specific
dtprel/tprel directives to MCStreamer. In addition,
llvm-mc -filetype=null parsing these directives will crash.
This patch moves these functions to MipsTargetStreamer and fixes
-filetype=null.

gprel32 and gprel64, called by AsmPrinter, are moved to
MCTargetStreamer.

[CodeGen][NVPTX] Add a TRI function get the Dwarf register number for a virtual register. (#129017)
NVPTX needs to be able to get the Dwarf register number for a virtual
register. The interface we have for this today is on MCRegisterInfo and
take a MCRegister argument. It shouldn't be legal to convert a Register
containing a virtual register to an MCRegister.

This patch adds a getDwarfRegNumForVirtReg function that takes a
Register to TRI and splits the NVPTX override of getDwarfRegNum.

Add DISubrangeType (#126772)
An Ada program can have types that are subranges of other types. This
patch adds a new DIType node, DISubrangeType, to represent this concept.
    
I considered extending the existing DISubrange to do this, but as
DISubrange does not derive from DIType, that approach seemed more
disruptive.
    
A DISubrangeType can be used both as an ordinary type, but also as the
type of an array index. This is also important for Ada.

Ada subrange types can also be stored using a bias. Representing this in
the DWARF required the use of an extension. GCC has been emitting this
extension for years, so I've reused it here.

In C++20, non-type template parameters can be float/double. Clang didn't
emit those constants in DWARF. This patch emits floating point constants
the same way we do other integral template value parameters.

[llvm][DebugInfo] Add new DW_AT_APPLE_enum_kind to encode enum_extensibility (#124752)
When creating `EnumDecl`s from DWARF for Objective-C `NS_ENUM`s, the
Swift compiler tries to figure out if it should perform "swiftification"
of that enum (which involves renaming the enumerator cases, etc.). The
heuristics by which it determines whether we want to swiftify an enum is
by checking the `enum_extensibility` attribute (because that's what
`NS_ENUM` pretty much are). Currently LLDB fails to attach the
`EnumExtensibilityAttr` to `EnumDecl`s it creates (because there's not
enough info in DWARF to derive it), which means we have to fall back to
re-building Swift modules on-the-fly, slowing down expression evaluation
substantially. This happens around
4b3931c8ce/lib/ClangImporter/ImportEnumInfo.cpp (L37-L59)

To speed up Swift exression evaluation, this patch proposes encoding the
C/C++/Objective-C `enum_extensibility` attribute in DWARF via a new
`DW_AT_APPLE_ENUM_KIND`. This would currently be only used from the LLDB
Swift plugin. But may be of interest to other language plugins as well
(though I haven't come up with a concrete use-case for it outside of
Swift).

I'm open to naming suggestions of the various new attributes/attribute
constants proposed here. I tried to be as generic as possible if we
wanted to extend it to other kinds of enum properties (e.g., flag
enums).

The new attribute would look as follows:

Absence of the attribute means the extensibility of the enum is unknown
and abides by whatever the language rules of that CU dictate.

This does feel like a big hammer for quite a specific use-case, so I'm
happy to discuss alternatives.

Alternatives considered:
* Re-using an existing DWARF attribute to express extensibility. E.g., a
`DW_TAG_enumeration_type` could have a `DW_AT_count` or
`DW_AT_upper_bound` indicating the number of enumerators, which could
imply closed-ness. I felt like a dedicated attribute (which could be
generalized further) seemed more applicable. But I'm open to re-using
existing attributes.
* Encoding the entire attribute string (i.e., `DW_TAG_LLVM_annotation
("enum_extensibility((open))")`) on the `DW_TAG_enumeration_type`. Then
in LLDB somehow parse that out into a `EnumExtensibilityAttr`. I haven't
found a great API in Clang to parse arbitrary strings into AST nodes
(the ones I've found required fully formed C++ constructs). Though if
someone knows of a good way to do this, happy to consider that too.

Allow 128-bit discriminants in DWARF variants (#125578)
If a variant part has a 128-bit discriminator, then
DwarfUnit::constructTypeDIE will assert.  This patch fixes the problem
by allowing any size of integer to be used here.  This is largely
accomplished by moving part of DwarfUnit::addConstantValue to a new
method.

[NVPTX] Fix DWARF address space for globals (#122715)
Fix an issue with defining actual DWARF address space for module scope
globals. Previously it was always `ADDR_global_space`.

Also, this patch introduces CUDA-specific DWARF codes for address space
specification in correspondence with:

[AsmPrinter][ELF] Support profile-guided section prefix for jump tables' (read-only) data sections (#122215)
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/122183 adds a codegen pass to
infer machine jump table entry's hotness from the MBB hotness. This is a
follow-up PR to produce `.hot` and or `.unlikely` section prefix for
jump table's (read-only) data sections in the relocatable `.o` files.

When this patch is enabled, linker will see {`.rodata`, `.rodata.hot`,
`.rodata.unlikely`} in input sections. It can map `.rodata.hot` and
`.rodata` in the input sections to `.rodata.hot` in the executable, and
map `.rodata.unlikely` into `.rodata` with a pending extension to
`--keep-text-section-prefix` like
059e7cbb66,
or with a linker script.

1. To partition hot and jump tables, the AsmPrinter pass slices a function's jump table indices into two groups, one for hot and the other for cold jump tables. It then emits hot jump tables into a `.hot`-prefixed data section and cold ones into a `.unlikely`-prefixed data section, retaining the relative order of `LJT<N>` labels within each group.

2. [ELF only] To have data sections with _dynamic_ names (e.g., `.rodata.hot[.func]`), we implement
`TargetLoweringObjectFile::getSectionForJumpTable` method that accepts a `MachineJumpTableEntry` parameter, and update `selectELFSectionForGlobal` to generate `.hot` or `.unlikely` based on
MJTE's hotness.
    - The dynamic JT section name doesn't depend on `-ffunction-section=true` or `-funique-section-names=true`, even though it leverages the similar underlying mechanism to have a MCSection with on-demand name as `-ffunction-section` does.

3. The new code path is off by default.
    - Typically, `TargetOptions` conveys clang or LLVM tools' options to code generation passes. To follow the pattern, add option `EnableStaticDataPartitioning` bit in `TargetOptions` and make it
readable through `TargetMachine`.
    - To enable the new code path in tools like `llc`, `partition-static-data-sections` option is introduced in
`CodeGen/CommandFlags.h/cpp`.
    -  A subsequent patch
([draft](8f36a13743)) will add a clang option to enable the new code path.

[NFC][DebugInfo] Use iterator-flavour getFirstNonPHI at many call-sites (#123737)
As part of the "RemoveDIs" project, BasicBlock::iterator now carries a
debug-info bit that's needed when getFirstNonPHI and similar feed into
instruction insertion positions. Call-sites where that's necessary were
updated a year ago; but to ensure some type safety however, we'd like to
have all calls to getFirstNonPHI use the iterator-returning version.

This patch changes a bunch of call-sites calling getFirstNonPHI to use
getFirstNonPHIIt, which returns an iterator. All these call sites are
where it's obviously safe to fetch the iterator then dereference it. A
follow-up patch will contain less-obviously-safe changes.

We'll eventually deprecate and remove the instruction-pointer
getFirstNonPHI, but not before adding concise documentation of what
considerations are needed (very few).

[ARM64EC] Avoid emitting unnecessary symbol references with /guard:cf. (#123235)
.gfids$y contains a list of indirect calls for Control Flow Guard. This
wasn't working properly for ARM64EC: direct calls were being treated as
indirect calls. Make sure we correctly filter out direct calls.

This improves the protection from Control Flow Guard, and also fixes a
link error when using certain functions from oldnames.lib.

[llvm][DebugInfo] Attach object-pointer to DISubprogram declarations (#122742)
Currently Clang only attaches `DW_AT_object_pointer` to
`DW_TAG_subprogram` definitions. LLDB constructs C++ method types from
their `DW_TAG_subprogram` declaration, which is also the point at which
it needs to determine whether a method is static or not. LLDB's
heuristic for this could be very simple if we emitted
`DW_AT_object_pointer` on declarations. But since we don't, LLDB has to
guess whether an argument is an implicit object parameter based on the
DW_AT_name and DW_AT_type.

To simplify LLDB's job (and to eventually support C++23's explicit
object parameters), this patch adds the `DIFlagObjectPointer` to
`DISubprogram` declarations.

[AsmPrinter] Reintroduce full AsmPrinterHandler API (#122297)
This restores the functionality of AsmPrinterHandlers to what it was
prior to https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/96785. The attempted
hack there of adding a duplicate DebugHandlerBase handling added a lot
of hidden state and assumptions, which just segfaulted when we tried to
continuing using this API. Instead, this just goes back to the old
design, but adds a separate array for the basic EH handles. The
duplicate array is identical to the other array of handler, but which
doesn't get their begin/endInstruction callbacks called. This still
saves the negligible but measurable amount of virtual function calls as
was the goal of #96785, while restoring the API to the pre-LLVM-19
status quo.

Fixes the "use after poison" issue introduced by #121516 (see
<https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/121516#issuecomment-2585912395>).

The root cause of this issue is that #121516 introduced "Called Global"
information for call instructions modeling how "Call Site" info is
stored in the machine function, HOWEVER it didn't copy the
copy/move/erase operations for call site information.

The fix is to rename and update the existing copy/move/erase functions
so they also take care of Called Global info.

[NFC][AsmPrinter] Pass MJTI by const reference instead of const pointer (#122365)
The caller `AsmPrinter::emitJumpTableInfo` checks [1] `MJTI` is not a
null pointer before calling `emitJumpTableEntry` or
`emitJumpTableSizesSection`.

This patch updates callee function's signature to accept const
reference, this way it's explicit `MJTI` won't be nullptr inside the
callee.

[AIX][AsmPrinter] Fix unsigned subtraction wrap-around (#122214)
Unsigned subtraction wrap-around occurs in `emitGlobalConstantImpl` on
an AIX-specific code path from 8e4423eb0888 when a structure type has
zero elements.

With assertions enabled, this manifests as:
```
TypeSize llvm::StructLayout::getElementOffset(unsigned int) const: Assertion `Idx < NumElements && "Invalid element idx!"' failed.
```
