Testing is a big part of the patch. We want to make sure the reduced BMI contains the same behavior with the existing and relatively stable fatBMI. This is pretty helpful for further reduction. I don't feel this is the correct fix. I just think it is not bad as an ad-hoc patch. And let's discuss things in the higher-level in the above GitHub issue link.
