The LLVM dialect lowers globals using IRBuilder, relying on it creating
constant expressions where possible. As we remove support for more
constant expressions (per
https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-remove-most-constant-expressions/63179),
this can cause issues for cases where the constant expression is no
longer supported, and the operation cannot be constant folded without
DataLayout being available. In particular, I ran into this issue with
flang and the removal of mul constant expressions.
Address this by using TargetFolder when creating globals, which will
perform DL-aware constant folding. I think it would make sense to also
do this in general, but I'm starting with globals where not doing this
can result in translation failures.
Ideally, globals with these problematic expressions would never be
generated in the first place, but there has been little movement on
fixing this (https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/96047).
Update llvm.call/llvm.invoke pretty printer/parser and the llvm ir import/export
to deal with the argument and result attributes.
This patch is made on top of PR 123176 that modified the
CallOpInterface and added the argument and result attributes to
llvm.call and llvm.invoke without doing anything with them.

When a new function is created to handle OpenMP target region, the
variables used in it are passed as arguments. The scope and the location
of these variable contains still point to te parent function of the
target region. Such variables will fail in Verifier as the scope of the
variables will be different from the containing functions.
Currently, flang is the only user of createOutlinedFunction and it does
not generate any debug data for the the variables in the target region
to avoid this error. When this PR is in, we should be able to remove
this limit in the flang (and anyother client) and have the better debug
experience for the target region.
This PR changes the location and scope of the variables in the target
region to point to correct entities. It is similar to what
fixupDebugInfoPostExtraction does for CodeExtractor. I initially tried
to re-use that function but found quickly that it would require quite a
bit of re-factoring and additions before it could be used. It was much
simpler to make the changes locally.

There were a bunch of spots in ROCDL.td where we were defining our own
llvmBuilder call which could have been generated using the default
built-in one on LLVM_IntrOpBase.
This commit cleans up such usages in the interests of potentinally
enabling ROCDL import in the future and of making best practices more
obvious.
The one breaking change is renaming WaitcntOp to SWaitcntOp, which
should have minimal impact.
Summary:
This patch unifies the existing offloading entires into a single section
called `llvm_offload_entires`. This lets us use a more unified
offloading infrastructure so that all targets share the same handling.
The effect is that people in the runtimes now need to check if the kind
is what they expect, but the expectation is that you can combine
multiple potential providers into a compile job. Doesn't fully work
yet because of other runtime issues, but some day. Mostly this helps the
future of liboffload where we want to handle different languages than
OpenMP.
This PR changes the emitted block structure of alloc, init, and copy
regions for `omp.private` and `omp.declare_reduction` ops a little bit.
In particular, this decouples init and copy regions from the alloca
insertion-point. The main motivation is fix "Instruction does not
dominate all uses!" errors that happen specially when an init region
uses a value from the OpenMP region it is being inlined into. The issue
happens because, previous to this PR, we inline the init region right
after the latest alloc block (since we used the alloca IP); which in
some cases (see exmaple below), is too early and causes the use
dominance issue.
Example that would break without this PR (when delayed privatization is
enabled for `omp.wsloop`s):
```fortran
subroutine test2 (xyz)
integer :: i
integer :: xyz(:)
!$omp target map(from:xyz)
!$omp do private(xyz)
do i = 1, 10
xyz(i) = i
end do
!$omp end target
end subroutine
```
This includes support for module translation, module import and add tests for both.
Fix https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/115390
ClangIR cannot currently lower global aliases to LLVM because of missing support for this.
Fixes#125088.
When splitBB is called with createBranch=true, it creates a branch
instruction in the old block. But no debug loc is set on that branch
instruction. If that is used as InsertPoint in the restoreIP, it has the
potential to set the current debug location to null and subsequent
instruction will come out without a debug location. This caused the
verification check to fail as shown in the bug report.
This PR changes splitBB and spliceBB function to also take a debugLoc
parameter which can be used to set the debug location of the branch
instruction.

The intention of this work is to give MLIR->LLVMIR conversion freedom to
control how the private variable is allocated so that it can be
allocated on the stack in ordinary cases or as part of a structure used
to give closure context for tasks which might outlive the current stack
frame. See RFC:
https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-openmp-supporting-delayed-task-execution-with-firstprivate-variables/83084
For example, a privatizer for an integer used to look like
```mlir
omp.private {type = private} @x.privatizer : !fir.ref<i32> alloc {
^bb0(%arg0: !fir.ref<i32>):
%0 = ... allocate proper memory for the private clone ...
omp.yield(%0 : !fir.ref<i32>)
}
```
After this change, allocation become implicit in the operation:
```mlir
omp.private {type = private} @x.privatizer : i32
```
For more complex types that require initialization after allocation, an
init region can be used:
``` mlir
omp.private {type = private} @x.privatizer : !some.type init {
^bb0(%arg0: !some.pointer<!some.type>, %arg1: !some.pointer<!some.type>):
// initialize %arg1, using %arg0 as a mold for allocations
omp.yield(%arg1 : !some.pointer<!some.type>)
} dealloc {
^bb0(%arg0: !some.pointer<!some.type>):
... deallocate memory allocated by the init region ...
omp.yield
}
```
This patch lays the groundwork for delayed task execution but is not
enough on its own.
After this patch all gfortran tests which previously passed still pass.
There
are the following changes to the Fujitsu test suite:
- 0380_0009 and 0435_0009 are fixed
- 0688_0041 now fails at runtime. This patch is testing firstprivate
variables with tasks. Previously we got lucky with the undefined
behavior and won the race. After these changes we no longer get lucky.
This patch lays the groundwork for a proper fix for this issue.
In flang the lowering re-uses the existing lowering used for reduction
init and dealloc regions.
In flang, before this patch we hit a TODO with the same wording when
generating the copy region for firstprivate polymorphic variables. After
this patch the box-like fir.class is passed by reference into the copy
region, leading to a different path that didn't hit that old TODO but
the generated code still didn't work so I added a new TODO in
DataSharingProcessor.
This fixes a bug when a `target` directive has both an `if` and a
`nowait` clauses. The bug happens because we tried to `emitKernelLaunch`
for `else` branch of the `if` clause.
This commit adds a check to catch calls/invokes that do not satisfy the
type constraints of their callee. This is not verified in LLVM IR but is
considered UB. Importing this into MLIR will lead to verification
errors, thus we should avoid this early on.
Adds `mapa` and `mapa.shared.cluster` MLIR Ops to generate mapa
instructions.
`mapa` - Map the address of the shared variable in the target CTA.
- `mapa` - source is a register containing generic address pointing to
shared memory.
- `mapa.shared.cluster` - source is a shared memory variable or a
register containing a valid shared memory address.

This PR aims to fix a mapping error when trying to map nullary elements
of a record type (primary example is allocatables/pointer types in
Fortran at the moment). This should be legal to map, just not write to
without pointing to anything within the target region. A common Fortran
OpenMP idiom/example where this is useful can be found in the added
Fortran offload example.
The runtime error arises when we try to map the pointer member utilising
a prescribed constant size that we receive from the lowered type,
resulting in mapping of data that will be non-existent when there is no
allocated data. The fix in this case is to emit a runtime check to see
if the data has been allocated, if it hasn't been we select a size of 0,
if it has we emit the usual type size.
The import of LLVM IR should use is isDSOLocal instead of
hasLocalLinkage to set the dso_local attribute.
Without this change, function definitions that mostly have external
linkage would be missing dso_local attribute during translation.

This PR removes the old `nocapture` attribute, replacing it with the new
`captures` attribute introduced in #116990. This change is
intended to be essentially NFC, replacing existing uses of `nocapture`
with `captures(none)` without adding any new analysis capabilities.
Making use of non-`none` values is left for a followup.
Some notes:
* `nocapture` will be upgraded to `captures(none)` by the bitcode
reader.
* `nocapture` will also be upgraded by the textual IR reader. This is to
make it easier to use old IR files and somewhat reduce the test churn in
this PR.
* Helper APIs like `doesNotCapture()` will check for `captures(none)`.
* MLIR import will convert `captures(none)` into an `llvm.nocapture`
attribute. The representation in the LLVM IR dialect should be updated
separately.
Adds AVX512 bf16 dot-product operation and defines lowering to LLVM
intrinsics.
AVX512 intrinsic operation definition is extended with an optional
extension field that allows specifying necessary LLVM mnemonic suffix
e.g., `"bf16"` for `x86_avx512bf16_` intrinsics.
This resolves the same issue addressed in
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/124286, but for invoke
operations. The issue arose from duplicated logic for both imports. This
PR also refactors the common import code for call and invoke
instructions to mitigate issues in the future.
Adds `griddepcontrol.wait` and `griddepcontrol.launch.dependents`
MLIR Ops to generate griddepcontrol instructions.
`griddepcontrol` - Allows dependent and prerequisite grids as defined by
the runtime to control execution in the following ways:
- `griddepcontrol.wait` - causes the executing thread to wait until all
prerequisite grids in flight have completed and all the memory
operations from the prerequisite grids are performed and made visible
to the current grid.
- `griddepcontrol.launch.dependents` - signals that specific dependents
the runtime system designated to react to this instruction can be
scheduled as soon as all other CTAs in the grid issue the same
instruction or have completed.

Handles the `nowait` clause for `omp.target` ops when the actual target
is the host (i.e. there is no target device). Rather than only checking
for the `HasNoWait` boolean, we also check for the presence/absence of a
`DeviceID` value. We only emit the target task if both are present.
# Overview
This PR adds 2:4 structured sparsity (sparse A, dense B) matrix multiply
instructions to ROCDL.
# Testing
I've added tests to Dialect/mlir and Target/mlir
This was discussed during the original review but I made it stricter
than discussed. Making it a pure view but adding a helper for bytecode
serialization (I could avoid the helper, but it ends up with more logic
and stronger coupling).
Previously, an indirect call was incorrectly generated when
`llvm::CallBase::getCalledFunction` returned null due to a type mismatch
between the call and the function. This patch updates the code to use
`llvm::CallBase::getCalledOperand` instead.
This PR adds mfma.scale.f32.32x32x64.f8f6f4 and
mfma.scale.f32.16x16x128.f8f6f4 to the ROCDL dialect. They are converted
to the corresponding intrinsics in the mlir-to-llvmir pass.
Intrinsics are available for the 'cpSize'
variants also. So, this patch migrates the Op
to lower to the intrinsics for all cases.
* Update the existing tests to check the lowering to intrinsics.
* Add newer cp_async_zfill tests to verify the lowering for the 'cpSize'
variants.
* Tidy-up CHECK lines in cp_async() function in nvvmir.mlir (NFC)

Fixes https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/112908
While https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/122866 fixed some
issues, it introduced a regression in worksharing loops. The new bug
comes from the fact that we now conditionally created the `after_alloca`
block based on the number of sucessors of the alloca insertion point.
This is unneccessary, we can just alway create the block. If we do this,
we respect the post condtions expected after calling
`allocatePrivateVars` (i.e. that the `afterAlloca` block has a single
predecessor.
This enable delayed privatization by default for `omp.wsloop` ops, with
one caveat! I had to workaround the "impure" alloc region issue that
being resolved at the moment. The workaround detects whether the alloc
region's argument is used in the region and at the same time defined in
block that does not dominate the chosen alloca insertion point. If so,
we move the alloca insertion point below the defining instruction of the
alloc region argument. This basically reverts to the
non-delayed-privatizaiton behavior.
Implementation details:
The PRIORITY clause is recognized by setting the flags = 32 to the
`__kmpc_omp_task_alloc` runtime call. Also, store the priority-value
to the `kmp_task_t` struct member
This PR generalizes a fix that we implemented previously for
`omp.wsloop`s. The fix makes sure the pre-condtion that the `alloca`
block has a single successor whenever we inline delayed privatizers is
respected. I simply moved the fix to `allocatePrivateVars` so that it
kicks in for any op not just `omp.wsloop`.
This handles a bug uncovered by [a

in the OpenMP_VV test suite.
This patch implements support for handling the 'if' clause of OpenMP
'target' constructs in the OMPIRBuilder and updates MLIR to LLVM IR
translation of the `omp.target` MLIR operation to make use of this new
feature.
This patch adds support for processing the `host_eval` clause of
`omp.target` to populate default and runtime kernel launch attributes.
Specifically, these related to the `num_teams`, `thread_limit` and
`num_threads` clauses attached to operations nested inside of
`omp.target`. As a result, the `thread_limit` clause of `omp.target` is
also supported.
The implementation of `initTargetDefaultAttrs()` is intended to reflect
clang's own processing of multiple constructs and clauses in order to
define a default number of teams and threads to be used as kernel
attributes and to populate global variables in the target device module.
One side effect of this change is that it is no longer possible to
translate to LLVM IR target device MLIR modules unless they have a
supported target triple. This is because the local `getGridValue()`
function in the `OpenMPIRBuilder` only works for certain architectures,
and it is called whenever the maximum number of threads has not been
explicitly defined. This limitation also matches clang.
Evaluating the collapsed loop trip count of SPMD and Generic-SPMD
kernels remains unsupported.
This patch introduces the `OpenMPIRBuilder::TargetKernelDefaultAttrs`
structure used to simplify passing default and constant values for
number of teams and threads, and possibly other target kernel-related
information in the future.
This is used to forward values passed to `createTarget` to
`createTargetInit`, which previously used a default unrelated set of
values.
This patch adds the `host_eval` clause to the `omp.target` operation.
Additionally, it updates its op verifier to make sure all uses of block
arguments defined by this clause fall within one of the few cases where
they are allowed.
MLIR to LLVM IR translation fails on translation of this clause with a
not-yet-implemented error.
The PR fixes the datatype error for `nvvm.mma.sync` when the operand is
`bf16`. This operation originally requires the A/B type to be `f16x2`
for the `bf16` MMA. However, it violates the NVVM intrinsic
[[here](372044ee09/llvm/include/llvm/IR/IntrinsicsNVVM.td (L119))],
where the A/B operand type should be `i32`. This is a bug, and there are
no tests in MLIR that cover this datatype.
