Reapply "[lldb/cmake] Plugin layering enforcement mechanism (#144543)" (#145305)
The only difference from the original PR are the added BRIEF and
FULL_DOCS arguments to define_property, which are required for
cmake<3.23.

[lldb/cmake] Plugin layering enforcement mechanism (#144543)
Some inter-plugin dependencies are okay, others are not. Yet others not,
but we're sort of stuck with them. The idea is to be able to prevent
backsliding while making sure that acceptable dependencies are..
accepted. For context, see
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/139170 and the attached
changes to the documentation.

[lldb/cmake] Implicitly pass arguments to llvm_add_library (#142583)
If we're not touching them, we don't need to do anything special to pass
them along -- with one important caveat: due to how cmake arguments
work, the implicitly passed arguments need to be specified before
arguments that we handle.

This isn't particularly nice, but the alternative is enumerating all
arguments that can be used by llvm_add_library and the macros it calls
(it also relies on implicit passing of some arguments to
llvm_process_sources).

d4a141ef93 Switch over to using the LLVM archive parser for BSD archives.
Our LLDB parser didn't correctly handle archives of all flavors on different systems, it currently only correctly handled BSD archives, normal and thin, on macOS, but I noticed that it was getting incorrect information when decoding a variety of archives on linux. There were subtle changes to how names were encoded that we didn't handle correctly and we also didn't set the result of GetObjectSize() correctly as there was some bad math. This didn't matter when exracting .o files from .a files for LLDB because the size was always way too big, but it was big enough to at least read enough bytes for each object within the archive.

This patch does the following:
- switch over to use LLVM's archive parser and avoids previous code duplication
- remove values from ObjectContainerBSDArchive::Object that we don't use like:
  - uid
  - gid
  - mode
- fix ths ObjectContainerBSDArchive::Object::file_size value to be correct
- adds tests to test that we get the correct module specifications

4b9eed9c64 [BSDArchive] NULL check the child object file ptr before accessing its member
Recently we've observed lldb crashes caused by missing object file linked to a thin archive (.a) files. The crash is due to a missing NULL check in the code when looking for child object file referred by the thin archive. Malformed archive file should not crash LLDB. Instead, it should report the error and continue.

New error message will look like the following

```
error: libfoo.a(__objects__/foo/barAppDelegate.mm.o) failed to load objfile for path/to/libfoo.a.
Debugging will be degraded for this module.
```

Test Plan:

llvm-lit test
```
Test without code change will error out with LLDB crash
This patch changes the way we initialize and terminate the plugins in
The previously landed patch got reverted because it was lacking:
 (1) A plugin definition for the Objective-C language runtime,
 (2) The dependency between the Static and WASM dynamic loader,
 (3) Explicit initialization of ScriptInterpreterNone for lldb-test.
All issues have been addressed in this patch.
808142876c [lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headers
Summary:
A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this:
```
//===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===//
```
However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and
these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing
source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary
editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review
someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this
is done in the same way in other files).
This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators,
all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing
trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line).
248a13057a [lldb] NFC modernize codebase with modernize-use-nullptr
Summary:
NFC = [[ https://llvm.org/docs/Lexicon.html#nfc | Non functional change ]]
This commit is the result of modernizing the LLDB codebase by using
`nullptr` instread of `0` or `NULL`. See
https://clang.llvm.org/extra/clang-tidy/checks/modernize-use-nullptr.html
for more information.
This is the command I ran and I to fix and format the code base:
```
run-clang-tidy.py \
	-header-filter='.*' \
	-checks='-*,modernize-use-nullptr' \
	-fix ~/dev/llvm-project/lldb/.* \
	-format \
	-style LLVM \
	-p ~/llvm-builds/debug-ninja-gcc
```
NOTE: There were also changes to `llvm/utils/unittest` but I did not
include them because I felt that maybe this library shall be updated in
isolation somehow.
NOTE: I know this is a rather large commit but it is a nobrainer in most
parts.
8b3af63b89 [NFC] Remove ASCII lines from comments
A lot of comments in LLDB are surrounded by an ASCII line to delimit the
begging and end of the comment.
Its use is not really consistent across the code base, sometimes the
lines are longer, sometimes they are shorter and sometimes they are
omitted. Furthermore, it looks kind of weird with the 80 column limit,
where the comment actually extends past the line, but not by much.
Furthermore, when /// is used for Doxygen comments, it looks
particularly odd. And when // is used, it incorrectly gives the
impression that it's actually a Doxygen comment.
I assume these lines were added to improve distinguishing between
comments and code. However, given that todays editors and IDEs do a
great job at highlighting comments, I think it's worth to drop this for
the sake of consistency. The alternative is fixing all the
inconsistencies, which would create a lot more churn.
My apologies for the large patch. With the exception of ConstString.h
ConstString has exactly one const char * data member, so passing a
value makes it harder to accidentally return the address of a local
The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers,
before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by
unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix.
In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to
opportunity to clean up the variable names as well.
I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have
We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header
Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach.
Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM
project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers
include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed
code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of
our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and
1cc0714c68 Extract construction of DataBufferLLVM into FileSystem
This moves construction of data buffers into the FileSystem class. Like
some of the previous refactorings we don't translate the path yet
because the functionality hasn't been landed in LLVM yet.
46376966ea [FileSystem] Extend file system and have it use the VFS.
This patch extends the FileSystem class with a bunch of functions that
are currently implemented as methods of the FileSpec class. These
methods will be removed in future commits and replaced by calls to the
file system.
The new functions are operated in terms of the virtual file system which
was recently moved from clang into LLVM so it could be reused in lldb.
Because the VFS is stateful, we turned the FileSystem class into a
singleton.
