The legacy cost model in some parts checks if any of the operands are
constants via SCEV. Update VPlan construction to replace live-ins that
are constants via SCEV with such constants. This means VPlans (and
codegen) reflects what we computing the cost of and removes another case
where the legacy and VPlan cost model diverged.
Fixes https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/105722.
For invariant stores to an address of a reduction, only the latest store
will be generated outside the loop. Consider earlier stores as dead.
This fixes a difference between the legacy and VPlan-based cost model.
Fixes https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/96294.
This patch moves branch condition creation to enter the scalar epilogue
loop to VPlan. Modeling the branch in the middle block also requires
modeling the successor blocks. This is done using the recently
introduced VPIRBasicBlock.
Note that the middle.block is still created as part of the skeleton and
then patched in during VPlan execution. Unfortunately the skeleton needs
to create the middle.block early on, as it is also used for induction
resume value creation and is also needed to properly update the
dominator tree during skeleton creation.
After this patch lands, I plan to move induction resume value and phi
node creation in the scalar preheader to VPlan. Once that is done, we
should be able to create the middle.block in VPlan directly.
This is a re-worked version based on the earlier
https://reviews.llvm.org/D150398 and the main change is the use of
VPIRBasicBlock.
Depends on https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/92525
PR: https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/92651
Use VPIRBasicBlock to wrap the middle block and implement patching up
branches in predecessors in VPIRBasicBlock::execute. The IR middle block
is only created after skeleton creation. Initially a regular
VPBasicBlock is created, which will later be replaced by a
VPIRBasicBlock once the middle IR basic block has been created.
Note that this slightly changes the order of instructions created in the
middle block; code generated by recipe execution in the middle block
will now be inserted before the terminator (and in between the compare
to used by the terminator). The original order will be restored in
https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/92651.

And another attempt to start untangling this ball of threads around gather.
There's `TTI::prefersVectorizedAddressing()`hoop, which confusingly defaults to `true`,
which tells LV to try to vectorize the addresses that lead to loads,
but X86 generally can not deal with vectors of addresses,
the only instructions that support that are GATHER/SCATTER,
but even those aren't available until AVX2, and aren't really usable until AVX512.
This specializes the hook for X86, to return true only if we have AVX512 or AVX2 w/ fast gather.

As it's causing some bot failures (and per request from kbarton).

By making pointer extraction from a vector more expensive in the cost model,
we avoid the vectorization of a loop that is very likely to be memory-bound:
https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=27826
There are still bugs related to this, so we may need a more general solution
to avoid vectorizing obviously memory-bound loops when we don't have HW gather
support.

Essentially the same as the GEP change in r230786.
A similar migration script can be used to update test cases, though a few more
test case improvements/changes were required this time around: (r229269-r229278)
import fileinput
import sys

pat = re.compile(r"((?:=|:|^)\s*load (?:atomic )?(?:volatile )?(.*?))(| addrspace\(\d+\) *)\*($| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$)")
for line in sys.stdin:
sys.stdout.write(re.sub(pat, r"\1, \2\3*\4", line))

One of several parallel first steps to remove the target type of pointers,
replacing them with a single opaque pointer type.
This adds an explicit type parameter to the gep instruction so that when the
first parameter becomes an opaque pointer type, the type to gep through is
still available to the instructions.
* This doesn't modify gep operators, only instructions (operators will be
handled separately)
* Textual IR changes only. Bitcode (including upgrade) and changing the
in-memory representation will be in separate changes.
* geps of vectors are transformed as:
getelementptr <4 x float*> %x, ...
->getelementptr float, <4 x float*> %x, ...
Then, once the opaque pointer type is introduced, this will ultimately look
like:
getelementptr float, <4 x ptr> %x
with the unambiguous interpretation that it is a vector of pointers to float.
* address spaces remain on the pointer, not the type:
getelementptr float addrspace(1)* %x
->getelementptr float, float addrspace(1)* %x
Then, eventually:
getelementptr float, ptr addrspace(1) %x
Importantly, the massive amount of test case churn has been automated by
same crappy python code. I had to manually update a few test cases that
wouldn't fit the script's model (r228970,r229196,r229197,r229198). The
python script just massages stdin and writes the result to stdout, I
then wrapped that in a shell script to handle replacing files, then
using the usual find+xargs to migrate all the files.
update.py:
import fileinput
import sys
import re
ibrep = re.compile(r"(^.*?[^%\w]getelementptr inbounds )(((?:<\d* x )?)(.*?)(| addrspace\(\d\)) *\*(|>)(?:$| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$))")
normrep = re.compile( r"(^.*?[^%\w]getelementptr )(((?:<\d* x )?)(.*?)(| addrspace\(\d\)) *\*(|>)(?:$| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$))")

apply.sh:
for name in "$@"
do
python3 `dirname "$0"`/update.py < "$name" > "$name.tmp" && mv "$name.tmp" "$name"
rm -f "$name.tmp"
done
The actual commands:
From llvm/src:
find test/ -name *.ll | xargs ./apply.sh
From llvm/src/tools/clang:
find test/ -name *.mm -o -name *.m -o -name *.cpp -o -name *.c | xargs -I '{}' ../../apply.sh "{}"
From llvm/src/tools/polly:
find test/ -name *.ll | xargs ./apply.sh
After that, check-all (with llvm, clang, clang-tools-extra, lld,
compiler-rt, and polly all checked out).
The extra 'rm' in the apply.sh script is due to a few files in clang's test
suite using interesting unicode stuff that my python script was throwing
exceptions on. None of those files needed to be migrated, so it seemed
sufficient to ignore those cases.

Port the LoopVectorizer to the new API.
The LoopVectorizer now finds instructions which will remain uniform after vectorization. It uses this information when calculating the cost of these instructions.
